Google is implementing an AI known as RankBrain to intemperate WHAT a searcher's query is REALLY looking for. Its only handling 15% of searches now, but it no longer displays results simply based on matching keywords. It tries to guess INTENT, and may deliver pages that completely ignore the keywords searched and instead deliver content on the topic of the search term. This also tells me that Google is gaining ground on the ability of "reading" content and getting an exact meaning of it without needing specific key phrases. So stuffing your iphone repair site with the term "iphone repairs online" in an attempt to gain rank in that term you may miss out while the searcher is delivered to a page that is about "fixing broken 6s screens" instead.

This could be a step toward being able to judge, based on a search term, the INTENT of the searcher and therefore the likelihood of their being a conversion. This would allow Google to give the "good" traffic to more reputable sites while giving the "unprofitable" traffic to the other sites. This would continue Google's trend of uncoupling the importance of RANK and IMPRESSIONS to ecommerce sites, and makes traffic QUALITY the golden goose.

Very interesting article, thanks mate.
I actually love this change because I hate to read through all those texts where they compulsively try to use longtail keywords.

Sooooooo just use more LSI on page.

Ok, problem solved.

True but with the "Barack" example in the article it seems like the algo will put more emphasis on stuff like "Michelle Obama's wife" that doesn't include "Barack" in the actual phrase. Still not too hard to work around especially for your money site provided you give a damn about your content.

To be completely honest with you for some reason I already thought Google already figured how to prevent keyword stuffing pages from ranking . Interesting read though :). Like asap1 said above looks like LSI are going to be the work around.

Quite the opposite, until now I had noticed that if you didn't have the EXACT PHRASE on your page at least once or twice and a handful of LSI you would have a LOT harder time ranking. I had pages that were good authority for a niche, and I tried to rank a page for a term that was on the topic of the page but not exactly on the page in the exact words and Google was like "go fuck yourself" as far as ranking went. I'd build a new page designed to rank for that term and boom, it was easy. So HOPEFULLY this fixes this annoyance.

More meddling. Makes me wonder if they are trying make user experience better or just making it even more difficult for your average Joe to get their content seen.

Either way they can suck a fat one, black hat all the way!

AI what a load of bollocks. For something to be intelligent it has to be able to think. Therefore Google could think 'fuck this I'm having the day off, can't be arsed'. If you fall for all the AI shite, do yourself a favour and throw your Terminator and Matrix DVD'S away. You are obviously not intelligent enough to watch them without taking them too seriously.

I think you are right no wonder I have not been ranking:eek:! I cannot believe I missed this! I have been trying to rank a site for the last three weeks that has been stuck on page 3, and I looked over my site that I have been sending backlinks to and I did not put the main keyword in the body of the paragraph! I am going to change this asap.

Uhm, you clearly have no clue what constitues AI. It doesn't have to be self-aware to be considered AI as far as I know, and AI is already in a lot of technology and it's the one thing that will be guaranteed to revolutionalize every industry. Give it another 20 years, and AI will have surpassed human intelligence.

Btw., AI in movies is completely ridiculous. If an AI with higher intelligence than us would want to eradicate us, we'd maybe have another 1-2 weeks before the human species will be completely wiped out. This is also why most intellectuals warn that we have to implement safety measurements AND make sure that the military does not create any AI. No amount of military could save us from that.
