I get you're supposed to link bank (in your article) to other authoritative relevant sites but what's the point of doing so?

I understand it looks more natural but is that the only reason?

It should look like a natural and relevant occurance, or don't do it at all. If you are quoting or are referring to something the authority site explains, then do it -- quote or refer and link to the page so that it makes sense to the visitor (incl. Human and g.bot).

One special advantage to the ama.aff is that if there happens a sale because of the special link, there can happen a little financial benefit!

Why would you even link out to someone else? I want the visitor to click my affiliate links or my advertisement - not leave my site and click someone else's links and ads.

The point is that you give them free backlink and send them free traffic... I never do that on any of my sites if not making me money.
