Hi All,

We recently had a huge drop in rankings for all keywords including brand terms

1) site:http://www.domain.com search still shows pages are indexed
2) no change was made to site, only thing is we had some speed issues which were addressed
3) no manual action was given

Anybody had something similar happen? Is there a new google update?

Yeap, 2 sites dropped to 4th-5th page from #1 for different kws. Others are fine..

Yes... That was the only thing setting them apart from the rest.

Hmmm... we haven't used any sape links for homepage or brand terms though and those dropped as well.

I don`t think it matters. Next time use sape for PBN.

Nothing to speak of like that at my end. Perhaps you just got picked up by the algorithm - what's your anchor text like? Lost any links? PBN de-indexed?

Yes, same thing is happening to A LOT of people, you can read on this forum similar threads are opened every day, I have few of my own sites that dropped 2 weeks ago for tens of keywords, some keywords are dancing between old positions (#4-#5) and 300+, some has gone down and doesn't show up and some regained the positions...

Yeap, now hoping the links will get removed :)). Sometimes it can be a pain in the ass...

anchor text extremely diversified, no more than 3% on targeted keywords... just noticed we did have a huge portfolio of SAPE links that are on SLEEP mode due to payment technical issues. PBNs are still there and fully functional, most of them are even outranking our main site for keywords :( First time this happens to us... If we did get picked up by the algorithm I would've expected a manual actions message or some other kind of warning.

Anchor text helps a lot to generate traffic for your website and ranking improve in few days but now a days google has c;pse eye on day to day procedure followed by spammers thats why its not too easy to rank the websites in few days.

I got it too. Same thing, no manual actions.

There are no warnings for algorithm penalties

Wouldn't google de-index the page as well though? site:http://www.domain.com still returns results
Also, we haven't done any work on brand or homepage which also droppped...

this leads me to think that it isn't a penguin/panda penalty

Apparently it has happened for sites with sape links. Lot of discussion on it in groups. Lets see how it pans out. Maybe certain niches? The update that was on continous roll out started hitting some sites?

Which groups are they?

It might be the new penalty for hacked links...

"Recently we have started rolling out a series of algorithmic changes that aim to tackle hacked spam in our search results. A huge amount of legitimate sites are hacked by spammers and used to engage in abusive behavior, such as malware download, promotion of traffic to low quality sites, p o r n, and marketing of counterfeit goods or illegal pharmaceutical drugs, etc.
......
The algorithmic changes will eventually impact roughly 5% of queries, depending on the language. As we roll out the new algorithms, users might notice that for certain queries, only the most relevant results are shown, reducing the number of results shown"

Got hit too, had 3 sites go down and have manual penalty notices this morning in Search Console.

Happened with me as well. Lost nearly 50% of traffic in one of my sites but no major changes in rankings.
