Cooking Forums for link building for my cooking blog?

I recently started to create a cooking blog that will contain articles about cheap cooking recipes with pictures and everything (I will cook those dishes and post articles with pic of them). So I am still a bit of a noob when it comes to promotion and I was thinking that Cooking forums would be something that would help out my blog, me being active there and posting my link where it is allowed.
Do you think it's a good idea?
What else would be helpful?

That will help as to getting direct traffic... interact like a regular member and offer substance in your comments and when appropriate offer your insite on your site.

You should also be able to have a signature link on most forums to your site as well. In fact, if the forum does not offer a signature option, I would not bother with it.

I actually do this for a bunch of different services I offer and it works real well and if you train people properly you can outsource it 100% after a little while.

Before you post your link to these forums, you should get around 30-50 helpful posts within the forum. You need to be careful with forum links as they are not seen as high quality, but if this is the beginning of your website then I would presume any non-spam backlinks would be beneficial, and at a later date you can build higher quality backlinks.

Yes, as an active member on those forums definitely you will get traffic from there when you have your site link on signature. Try to find cooking blogs and do comments on the recipes shared over there, that way you can gain some more traffic. Also, pinterest is the best place for cooking niche just like jason suggested.

Thanks, I have done this with gaming and promotion forums, but wasn't sure if it would be the same result with cooking. Better safe than wasting my time for nothing.

I do not have any monetization planned yet, but I assume Google Adsense or some alternative. Do you have any suggestions?

I use Adsense on my similar site at the moment, but I have plans to add a "Review section" of kitchen electrical etc linking via Amazon. Mainly due to Adsense CPC being very low due to the content. Which btw is 100% unique, recipes are just usually short and ingredients/methods no matter how hard you try contain duplication.

I also suggest giving PinBot a look. Quite expensive but the support given to me by Healzer has been invaluable IMO.
