How are you tracking keywords when google does not give referral information anymore? I have a few websites that get searches but I have no clue which keywords they are ranking for... How do you accomplish this? It just says "not provided" for me.

SemRush and Webmaster Tools are your best friends! You can't know 100% of your rankign keywords but you can have a 90% precise idea

Hi Argan I'm Italian and I have an Amazon affiliation site like you.
First, I hope we are not working on the same niche, then I want to ask you a question about the conversion in general.
I noticed that the users of my niche are inclined to buy the product I advertise, some days after they've clicked on the button/affiliate link.
This doesn't happen with your niche, from what I've read in this journey, right?

For example, yesterday I've reached about 120 UVs and most of them clicked on the button, about 95/100, but nobody bought nothing
After this I've a conversion rate of about 3%, at the beginning of this month it also reached 4,5/5%.

I never seen this high conversion rates and I'm in 10+ niches. That said, if the products have a high cost it will take much more to get to the end of the decision-making process.

This month my conversion rate is lower but my earnings are higher, I don't know why and I'm investigating!

you have clearly explained everything, but i am quite confused with one thing. you said that you look at search engine results, i know it's italian and it should be less, but my desired keyword has 65 MILLION searches without ", and with "keyword" it shows up to 200k. but really, on the first page there are one toptenreviews subdomain page, and others just bestbuy, walmart and amazon, & other online stores. i know that beating online stores is not hard, and surpassing toptenreviews subdomain website should be easy too, it's sub domain after all. is there anything wrong im thinking?

Well, you can beat every website that have duplicates/poor contents on it (this is the "rule", bot Amazon or Walmart's pages).
A sub-domain can be stronger than a normal domain, you need to watch to backlink profile, content quality and keyword competition.

Keyword competition can be checker looking at backlink profile of the first 5 results Total results and "intitle" etc checks can help, but aren't all about keyword research

I'm also quite interested in numbers. Sudden stop of posting numbers after consistently posting them usually means that something went wrong (google penalty etc) and author does not want to reveal it. I'm not claiming this happened here but it would be nice to know if this was sustainable or not...

This is the situation of the past 16 days and the traffic from Google of the first 16 days of September increased by +23% compared to the first 16 days of August!

+35% increase in Orders

As you can see from these screens orders increased by a good 35% but clicks doubled!
For this reason my conversion rate dropped from 1,74% of the previous month to 1,27% of this month!

Semms like have arrived more really curious people who click on the site but buy less than previous month.
Never mind because orders have increased significantly and, consequently, earnings. Anyway I need to study the situation to analize this phenomenon!

Seo Situation
The link building machine is always running and my assistant is making a lot of citations!
Until now, in about 2 weeks, he made 90 citations with brand name, image links and naked links.

That said, I can't see big improvements in rankings and traffic is increasing gently and steadily.

SemRush Report

According to the SemRush report I've 86 keywords in the first spot and is really great news!
The bad thing is that the 80% of my keywords are in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th page.
For this reason I'm boosting my silo pages and homepage and hope to see big improvements for the massive link/brand citation building activities!

1)when you have keyword which is much more competive but in general it will be good that you will be having that keyword (all niche will be covered) you are doing that article even you know that it will be hard to be in top 10 ??(to be more clearly example "renault trucks" is keyword with low competition but hard competition are in "volvo trucks")
2)Interlinking - if you have a silo which contains 20 articles do you do interlinking inside article(for example related article or similar product ??) and if yes are you putting every article in taht niche ?? I know that you use plugin for related posts which probably shows every article in niche also

1) I'm targeting keywords that I can rank easly. My strategy is to rank faster and easier for low traffic and low competition
I've few contents to rank for big keywords (only tests) but I need to wait few months to see results.

2) Yeah, you need to interling in content and with related widget. With CrazyEgg I can see a lot fo clicks in the sidebar and the bottom of posts where related contents appear.

With 10 pages you can't really do a lot because it's only 1 silo... You can improve user experience with Silo but if you're doing it for Seo purposes interling all contents, is more effective
Now I'm using custom plugin with custom pages

Yeah, brand citations in sentences and website mentions
It's a strategy without a lot of backlinks and it's more filter safe

Hi arganrecords, I am following this journey and i started one in my own country where Amazon is not present, but i have a few affilate programs to choose from with 4-5% comission.

I have discovered some emd domain names available for micro niche specialized sites, suitable to generate some small regular income with a few work.

For example i have the domain headphones.tld
The searches in Google Keyword Tool for all short and long tail keywords are in total 23.000 (from 10 up to 2.600 searches)

So, i will write about 60 articles for a total of 23.000 (sum of all short and long tails) monthly searches.

The niche has in serps Adwords results from ecommerce and price comparators.


How many visits should i expect for this site? 10%, 20% of searches? (i assume i will have 1% conversion rate from visits)
What do you do in such situation, how many monthly searches is the minimum for the whole site?

Well, if you're able to rank for all that keywords (for a total Search Volume of 23K) you can reach near 20% of this traffic.
To be realistic you'll reach the 5% of these people in the first 6 months simply because isn't easy to rank for all that keywords in a little time period.

When I'm starting a new website I don't do much calculations like you because this data are really inaccurate.
Plus you need to consider if this keywords are commercial of simply "How to" etc

You need to consider if people is ready to buy products with informations on your website, for this reason your contents have to be really great and well structured.

I know I'm updating less often but link building activities and content creation is always running every day (total articles: 470)
Now daily average earnings are more than € 100 and I think the website is ready to skyrocket!

I'm waiting for the next Google update, in this way I'm sure I can beat a lot of my competitors that are using rank strategies riskier than mine

Until today my collaborator is at 124 total brand citation and backlinks on forums and blogs (follow and no-follow).
He started on the 30th August 2015 and the daily average is near 5 citations/backlinks a day. I think it is a balanced and natural number (considering that Google finds these citations in time).
The citation/backlink rate is 1:5 and I think it is a credible and anti-spam filters method to do link building.

The hard (other's) work is paying off and I'm really satisfied with this project. Until today (from 1st September) were ordered 570 products and there are 40 in queue to be shipped.

Google traffic is increasing by a good 17% and earnings are increasing. Unexpected things are happening but I'm analyzing and once I get an answer I will share with you
As you can see there is always something new, so I say that I am a small professional child who is discovering a fascinating world in constant evolution!

Project for the Future
From a few weeks I'm surfing on Alibaba and I am asking many estimates. My idea is to start selling on Amazon and "FeeBay" and I'm waiting for Amazon validation from a few days.
There is a big problem in the italian Amazon affiliate system! Fees are leveled up to a maximum of € 10 and this limits my commissions from 12% to 8%.

Plus, Seo is really time consuming and need months to be effective. I'm doing this because now I need to invest my money and from my calculations I can earn up to 30% selling products (30% cleared of shipping, marketplaces fees, packaging, product purchase and storage!).

Whatever happens I'm going to invest € 1k in this project and also if it fails I will learn a new thing that ends up in my wealth of experience
Say what do you think about and any advice is welcome
