Is it hard to get ranking for penalized site?

Dear Friends,

My site is 15 years old, it ranked well in 1st page for high competition keywords, later it was penalized by G's Penguin(2013) update. And I have recovered my site by requesting G.

Before Update I had 4k backlinks to my site, I have deleted most of the links and added some links in disavow tool. now currently I have 900+ backlinks.

Am currently building quality links and updating site with quality content for around 5 months, Still I couldn't rank on 1st page(Even for low comp keywords). Some keywords are ranked around 40th position after 5 months work

Is it very hard to bring up ranking for penalized site again? Will I able to rank in near future? Do anybody had such experience?

Now may traffic is just between 20 - 30 Before update I had 1k+ visitors)

Please give me your taught and advice to get traffic and ranking.

Well, that's frustrating. It's really difficult to recover from getting penalized. And yes, it's best for you to start by getting rid of the bad links that you have had before you start publishing new content in your website.

Well,i also have the same issue,my website used to rank for most of kwds on the first page then i got penalized on 2014 by penguin,i managed to get it back since then i have posted good contents and built quality links but there was no results,Im thinking about 301,that only thing left now.

Many guys have faced these problems. If you want to gain back the things, then delete spammy backlinks and buy high authority links for valuable resources.

I also had same case like you, but penalty wasn't lifted hence i left that domains and started new site using PBN and its ranking good, getting ~1.5k visitors each day. i would suggest doing the same if you want to start making money from your site soon.

Re-ranking a penalized website is like trying to get shit out of a carpet, very tricky.

I would suggest identifying whatever penalty you think that you have been hit with and act accordingly.

I have seen once penalized websites flourish again after appropriate action taken once an algorithm refresh comes through. Best of luck!

You then would remove the things that you did wrong and then ask Google to lift the penalty. Also give them the details that you have fixed the errors from which it was penalized. Ask them if there are any more errors that you need to take care of. You should be absolutely sure before making any links that Google has lifted the penalty or this might go the other way.

Once the penalty is removed, don't make back links.... quality quantity does not matter here, just don't make backlinks. Go for some heavy social media optimization. Get viral over twitter and facebook, you will see changes automatically to your website. Once when you think the things are back to normal than you can go and make some backlinks. This process will take you around 3-6 months, patience is the key here. I have successfully bought back sites from sandbox. Just one more advice:- Let Google react on your actions than go further else stop it there.

This is our brand name, so cannot let this site go and build new site, I have only option to work on this domain and get back ranking

I think you should must contact an SEO expert in this case or take advice from them. You have to keep patience because It is too difficult to get ranked with a penalized site. So It will take some time and hard work.

(Assuming not a churn and burn) If the site was making good money then try to recover it. If it was just ok money or very little. Start with a fresh new site...move the content over and try to build up your brand on new domain so people search for your brand...rather than ranking for keywords that is short term and will get you penalised again.

You could start off with a reconsideration request to Google.

2 years old penalized and you still working ? Opps. Actually, It's happened with me. I tried all most 1 year but can not recover then I build a new blog and getting better result within short time. So, better to leave that one and go with first one..
