They say article marketing is dead, and I believe this. But can we still use articles for bringing traffic for our pages? Would posting them to article directories help for the task?
If your goal is to bring in visitors who are interested in what you have to say and will visit your site over and over again, then of course articles have value. But they have to actually be good.

Not for article directories, really. I don't know any real people who actually visit a directory to read random articles. Either host them on your own site (for authority) or market them as individual guest posts to other people in your niche who already have (legit) traffic of their own. Probably not very useful to guest post on the site of a fellow IMer or anyone who accepts tons of guest posts of variable quality.
Depends on how you use them. For SEO, Article Directories are fine. But, how often does anyone you know, visit ezinearticles, for example, for their healthy dose of reading? Some do, but most would be at news websites or blogs they follow, etc.
