Competing with sites that have no on-page optimization?

So I've been botting twitter for awhile but it gets kind of boring sometimes, so I decided to try some SEO. Since I'm a programmer I decided to focus on building my sites manually so I can get top site loading speeds and the best on-page optimization. So then I start doing keyword research and I find out that a lot of the sites that rank for the long-tailed keywords in my niche have no on-page SEO. Here is a screenshot out of KeywordRevealer.



As you can see, the top results have no on-page SEO at all. Most of the backlinks to those sites also have no anchor text or else no keywords in the anchor text.

So here is my question. If I make a page that is very optimized on-page, then how do you think it would rank against these sites? Also, how many backlinks do you think I would need to outrank these guys, considering that my site has good on-page SEO?

Now that is a kind of keyword I have never encountered so far (regarding on-site SEO of the competitors). Are you sure NO website on the top 10 has the keyword in title, URL, description or H1? What is the exact monthly searches for the keyword? Is it a long-tail keyword and how many words?
If you think the keyword is profitable enough, you will RANK it in top 10 with only perfect on-page and NO backlinks at all. In fact, you should rank at least in top 30-50 once you publish the article and it gets indexed. Then add a couple of internal links and it should be in top 10. If you want #1, a couple of HQ guest posts should be enough.

So I got curious and rechecked them. It's a 7 word keyword that gets about 2.5k uv's a month. Whoever types in that keyword will definitely be a probable buyer to my product. I have a friend who tells me I should get a sale with every 70-100 uv's. It's a product that is over $200 so it should pay off.

You are wrong about everything!
URL is important when it comes to over-optimization issues. The same with description, although you are right about the CTR.
Title is the most important and powerful on-page factor, not "kinda important".
NO means the title does not have the EXACT keyword, it doesn't mean there is no title at all lol.

How do you know it brings about 2.5k UV-s/month if you haven't ranked for it? Also, there are many factors when it comes to sales, such as your landing page, your pitch, CTR, etc... Once again, what's the monthly searches in GKT?

If it is a 7 word keyword, then I am pretty sure all the sites are ranking based on their authority and LSI keywords they have in their articles and because their articles contain part of the 7 words. As I suspected, this will be pretty EASY to rank for, however be careful about over-optimization. You will hit the penalty trigger really easily with such long-tail keywords. If I were you, I would put the EXACT keyword without modifiers in the title and H1 and include LSI keywords in the URL and description. Also include the exact keyword again maybe once or twice maximum in the content and then use partial keywords throughout the rest of the content.

Then you sir have found a GOLDEN keyword, good job! especially if it has high commercial intent (meaning it's a buyer keyword). By all means go rank for it. Write the article tomorrow and you should be in the top 30-50 within 2-3 days (maybe top 10 immediately if you get lucky) if you did it right.
