Best FREE keyword research tool?

Google keyword planner is the only thing you would need. The rest could be checked manually. But there are tools that simplify this as mentioned by others above.

Thought I'd post here instead of starting a new thread.

Is it necessary that I give Google my home address, credit card number, and tax information before signing up for this tool? Because that's what Google requests in the sign up form.. It also made me design an ad for my website so I'm wondering if I'm in the right place.

Sounds like you're in the wrong place, you don't need to give that info or start an ad campaign to use keyword planner.

I would really recommend Longtail Pro, however it is not free, but you can use a trial period to research keywords and competitors anyway.

No doubt Kwfinder is the best, no tool can beat it except Google Keyword Planner (but sometimes it gets confusing).

What i am using sometimes is to just type in the things i want to research into google and then i use the suggestions google gives me.

For Free simply go with Google Adwords

I'm having the same issue..When I go to sign up for google keyword planner it makes you go through a 4 step process: "About you business" "Your first campaign" "Billing" and "Review"

And there is no way of skipping over the info...

It's interesting no one mentioned Firefox -> Google.com (manually checking keywords).

I use Keyword Planner for generating huge lists, importing to a custom tool I've coded and doing some bulk analysis, but at the end it all comes down to the manual research.

There's only so much a tool can do, without the manual checks you will always have some false positives (easy looking KWs that end up being hard).
