My ORM / 7878 Journey Thread

I see this market as online PRESENCE management, not just reputation. Think of all the things that you would do for yourself, if you were tapping into a niche. Keyword research, website development, SEO, etc. Your ultimate goal, should be to help your client DOMINATE HIS BUSINESS LANDSCAPE! He already is selling something, and he's somehow still in business. In order to turn his reviews around, you need to find out the good and the bad, and capitalize on the information. Pump efforts in understanding why the good is good, and how to turn the bad around (the customer reviews should tell this).

I agree! However currently where I am at is, how do you propose $3000 - $4000 per month to somebody over the phone? This would be for ORM, SEO, Web Design, Social Media etc. It seems people are a lot more likely to say yes to ORM, then later on say yes to other things, this has been my experience so far atleast.

the idea of having the multiple layers of subscription, is so they can downgrade instead of fully ending services...

The way I plan on retaining clients once the chunk of their reputation problem is fixed is doing just this. "Downgrading" them to a maintainence package which would be half the amount they're currently paying.

I read the method that you linked to, and I have a question. The whole article goes on about how to get customers, but doesn't explain what to do after, or how to actually "manage" a businesses "reputation". What does this entail? Are you spamming Yelp with positive comments? Are you down voting negative comments, and up voting positive ones? What is your strategy? How much work is involved, and how many hours are you actually working on a clients "reputation"?

This is something you're going to need to research and something I can't really cover in just one reply, if you'd like you can add me on Skype and we can have a chat :)

Today I sent out 117 letters:

I plan on lifting my game a bit and sending out 30 - 50 letters per week. I've been working on some interesting things which I'll let you all know about when the time is right.

Glad to hear you are keeping it up.

Did you change up your letter content, or is it still the same - e.g. something of an A/B test in your letters to determine what works better?

On the "downgrade" strategy...definitely right way to go...no client will want to continue to pay after they think the "job is done". One way to do this is to suggest up front that this will happen, perhaps based on a combo of factors (e.g. time, and measurable objectives achieved). This way, they've already said "yes" up front to the program, so easier sell on the back end to get them to continue.

You are right, you need to build a relationship and track record for the client to want to up their spend with you. Lot of people here are afraid of even meeting their clients, but face time is always a great opportunity to sell and build relationship. Phone is useful for quick chats, problem notification, etc.. Not a great sales tool by itself for services, especially higher value propositions.

Thanks :)

I changed my letter with this batch yeah, it will be interesting to see if the conversion rate changes.

I do all of my dealings over the phone and work with clients mostly from other states. I am open to meetings with people from my state though.

I have seen those before. They use that in the White House! Awesome little device, but I think they are quite expensive.

I recently sent a letter with a folded envelope in it (to a friend)...it returned to me...with a new little finger pointing sticker saying that bulky stuff in a letter could "tangle or damage the machinery" used by the post office

I had to resend it in a brown/lightly padded envelope

your thoughts on this? Is it something new? it was not really very bulky...thanks

Where are you from?

Realistically speaking it will depend on the post office. Some will have machines that can't handle thick or inflexible mail and will tear right through it. Others have some leeway. Hard to answer that question without having you split test multiple post offices and checking the results.

I'm just wandering, are you required to pay taxes in Australia for these kind of jobs?

Sent a whole lot there wulf. Whats your conversion rate from all your letters so far? good luck

True - so really good to check it out with different size envelope and different "goodies" inside them. I did think of .....taping a shiny coin inside.....getting money from the Islands (various) and putting that in ....getting one of the "dollar bill" type biz cards or props ...monopoly money....I am trying to think of "something" that would be flat

as an aside....I know our local PO have "updated" a lot in recent years, now much is self serve, weigh stuff and mail it, I think they are trying to streamline. So yes, always good to make sure - I agree it would be awful to have all one's hard work returned ouch

Just a thought here...do you have a lot of "detail" about funnel on your own website, or just more generic info?

I have seen both ways....which do you use Wulf? Has anyone found pros/cons to the 2 choices?

Like....if you are more "mysterious" about it...do they brush you off?

if you are more upfront, offer a demo do they say "cool"...and then say "I am having my nephew make a site like that for me"?

Thanks

Hi...USA....south florida

thanks
The US Post Office is frustratingly inconsistent for some of their "standards" - things that should be a no-brainer often can cause a "problem". I've run into this kind of garbage from time to time - mostly from people who don't really know their job.

Who knows if the sorting machine issue is a real one. Surely the machines have a wider tolerance built in for merely a second letter being included in the first. How thick can that be? I'd call BS on that one with the PO staff. Sounds like they are making it up, maybe to fulfill a quota of rejects by some "inspection" employee.

Just finished reading this thread. Truly inspiring read! It makes me want to take action as well.

Is your business growing? Did you create a website to advertise and "brand" your image?

Thanks man! I'm glad you found the thread helpful and has inspired you. I haven't done anything to my website to promote ORM. I'm updating my website soon though, which will have a whole section dedicated to ORM.

I'm sorry that the thread has been a little inactive lately guys. I've been on Holiday in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains of Australia.

I'm going to start back up with the ORM stuff very soon.
My plan is to get 50 letters out a week every week quite soon. I'm looking forward to seeing how that goes. I will keep you all updated!

Not sure how many clients you are active with right now, but just wondering if this is a "working holiday" for you, or if you are able to truly have solid time away from your work? Just wondering how you have planned that out.

Anyway, enjoy your time in the mountains, and I will look forward to your updates coming.
