So I've been getting asked lately if link building is still a valid form of SEO. Fuck yeah it is! I've dug into the websites of people that are asking me this and they're completely relying on PBN's and/or Web 2.0 links. Tsk tsk tsk... That might work for a bit, but not a long term strategy. Here are some of the things I do when link building...
Press Release Distribution - Yep, they still work if you completely ignore the "Free" ones.
Article Syndication - Build a legitimate network that syndicates content. Have you seen Rebelmouse of Paperli penalised lately? Noooo.
Blog Comment - I don't mean blasting the crap out of everything and anything in Scrapebox. Use Buzz Sumo or Ahrefs Content Finder to look for good content, read it then leave a valuable comment. Simples... Also use feedly, it's mad!
Forum Links - Yep, I said it... If you look at some big players in your niche, you might find that they are actually a member of a legitimate forum and have a branded link there. Some people even offer help for people asking questions. Amazing!
Guest Blogging - Go for big fish and work your way down. Even the spammiest looking bullshit blog can add some value in the mix. Hell, even some Fiverr blogs are ok if you add more than just your link (major footprint by the way).
Creative Gift Ideas - These gain social signals. If you're going to pay for them, do it right! Stop faking signals with bullshit bots that get deleted in a few months.
Link Bait - Write some great content, the kind that people will read and say out loud "that was sick!".... People will try to one up you, which generates buzz, and others will link to it as a reference. Good contents sparks debate and ideas. You think Rebecca Black has 2 million people liking her on twitter?
Create real Web 2.0 links - This means stop using GSA type software for tier one crap. Write something, link back to you.. Simple.
PBN it up - Yeah do it, but don't do it just to get it done. Get someone to generate content and social media attention for you "PBN", so basically treat is as an actual blog that people will want to read.
Hopefully that all makes sense... Go for the blackhat to get you up there, and when you have a good budget then swap hats and go whitehat.
