It just seems like IM in the Russian internet is pretty much dominated by scam CPA\affilates or some vk.com stuff. Russian youtube section is also being botted as hell. I've seen few Russian IM forums and I think that russians are more active there, because most methods from BHW just won't work for Russia. (even SEO. Don't forget that yandex is more popular than google in Russia)

I've never learnt Ukrainian, although whenever I run into it I know it's not Russian because I can't understand anything. Normally, if I see a Russian sentence with words I don't know, I can tell it's Russian because I'll recognise a few words at least.

I think the differences between them would be like comparing Spanish to Italian.

Not every Russian understands Ukrainian. But every Ukrainian knows Russian!

The languages are very different.


For example I live in Ukraine and in my city (1.5 mln.populations) they say 96% of the population in Russian but we all know Ukrainian!

Well most of CIS countries citizens understand and speak russian freely, and even some people from Eastern europe do. This is why russian internet, or as they call it Runet, is so large.
