Hello, i work on new authority website ("X niche"), i would to ask you how many keywords i must prepare, and each keywords with how minimum local and global search per month.

actually i have a list of 120 keywords starting at 18100 local search per month (for main keyword) until 110 local search per month for a long keywords (4-5 words), do you have any suggestion ? what's you suggest and how you do your keywords selection for new authority website ?

We cannot take any decision or come to conclusion on how many keywords should be used with their search volume. If it is a competitive niche use long tailed keywords.

My choice for you is to go with long tail ones.
Targeting high competitive keywords for a new website is not a good approach.

First try to rank for long tail ones (take 10 long tail keywords), once the website ranked to top positions for long tail phrases, then move to high competitive keywords. Do not target your whole list (120 keywords), try targeting first 30.

I agreed your Point. Better to concentrate first 10 Keywords

A week long adwords campaign will reveal all you need to know about what local keywords to target.
Andrew, just to be clear, you mean a CPC campaign of his top 10 long tails, right? Or, would you mix it up a bit, based on some other factor, as an A group vs B group test?

I put together a big list of keywords that might be suitable for the client, you can use something like keywordshitter.com to pull a lot and then filter the junk out.

Then I run a week long adwords campaign and track impression data.

What you might find is that some keywords will get no impressions and thus they aren't worth targeting, while others will get the lions share.

This is really the best way to get accurate keyword volume data for local.
