Moving to the UK - any tips?

In November I will be moving from Australia to the UK. We will travel around for a bit, until January and then try find some work. I have a bachelor's degree in ICT and a minor in marketing. My girlfriend has a bachelor's degree in business with an accounting major.

Does anyone have any tips on looking for work, accommodation, even things that we should do while in the UK?

Australians have hitherto found it quite easy finding temp contracts in accounting in London but I'm not sure it's as easy right now. Outside of London it will be harder still. Our government is keen to tell us all there are 1,000 jobs an hour being created in the UK but most of them are zero hours contracts.

If you want ideas for accommodation Rightmove is a good place to get a feel for what you get for your money here. One month deposit is standard(ish).

Bring a large wallet jam-packed with cash and credit cards; you're gonna need them. This island is expensive now.

Focus on London. I like startups, so if you do, try sites like workinstartups.com and apply in advance. As for things to do, typical tourist stuff like The London Eye, Houses of Parliament and Museums.

No. But living costs are ridiculous in London. Make sure you have a clear idea of how much you are going to need before moving here.

I don't know whats the reason behind leaving Australia, Australia is best place to live If I were you I would visiting other countries as for holidays purpose or business purpose only. However, London is good place to live and it's expensive as well. Try to find jobs online before moving to London, Once you get job move london.

Transport and accommodation in London are ridiculous expensive. Marketing is a very competitive sector, other than that just come and try your luck!

To everyone saying it's expensive: I'm moving from Australia and the part of Australia that I live is a big tourist area and very expensive. People have said its only slightly more expensive in London that it is here for transport, and food. Apparently accomodation is much more expensive in London.
