Rankings taking a long time?

How fast did you ranked a keyword this time ?

There are a lot of factors that go into ranking a website for a specific keyword or set of keywords. You cannot really say it is "taking longer" unless you are testing 100s of keywords with multiple sites throughout multiple niches over time.
In late 2014, it took me around 10 days. Now it has been much longer and nothing.
The mobile one? If so, mine is mobile-friendly.
I am using the same keywords, and the same niche, with the same website. There is nothing different. If I was using different keywords and niches, then I can't say what I am saying because it would vary depending on the niche and keyword. However, that is not the case.
It does take longer. I think that after the November 2014 update they have changed the way the handle backlinks. I remember backlinks would pop up in GWMT withing a few day when I was using indexing service. And I could see what impact they had on my ranking. Now it takes a couple of week if not longer. And the rank effect is no longer immediate. Which makes harder to see which are working well and which don't. Some people call it the 'backlink sandbox'

Yes, 100% in my niches it's taking longer.
I've been targeting the same primary 4 niches for years. In the past I could grab the #1 spot in 6 weeks. These days the sites go through a series of long, protracted and convoluted dances before they gain momentum. It's very hard to explain but something about the algo is far more intelligent and fluid than it was in the past.
Either that or that algo is evolving faster than my own SEO skills.

I do not think it is your SEO skills. New sites take longer, as we all know that is how the Algo is set up. Targeting hundreds of KWs recently has shown me something simple, no matter my link strategy (PBN, Guest Post, SPAM, Blog Comment, 2.0, ect) it just seems to take a while to start showing up. Then a long period of dancing, then pop's up a few pages, then dances again for a while.
This is mostly on new domains, I have yet to do enough split testing on aged and new to extrapolate anything substantial, but I know that it is taking me longer today for a new site than, lets say, a year ago.

I believe Google is timing out new domains to a tune of around 90days or so.

You are using the same keywords and the same niche for multiple websites? See, you are not widely testing your SEO formula so to speak. You need to test it further before asking the question in your OP.

I haven't noticed much change. I also call bullshit on the theories about new domains. Always see articles on this..... New domains rank just fine at a good rate, maybe not in high comp but they def do in low - medium.
This is a new domain that's 4 weeks old. I've only done minor seo on the top keyword and the 8th.. the rest are doing it on their own. I'll on the first page in 1-2 weeks easy.
Although old domains help I've never had any issues with my rankings.
This site below is 5 weeks old and it's ranking nicely for some low comp keywords.

From my experience more then 90 days, I set up a new website/domain back in October 2014, no matter what I did the site was stuck in the 80s and 70s rank for a long time. The rank started to improve in late March and early April. And keeps improving. Right now I'm on 2 second page for a number keywords. I did build a lot of links in December, January and February and very little in March and April. Most definitely there is some kind of delay.

There is no time limit. I have ranked new sites in a week with the right social media push followed by consistent backlinks. It worked for me on more than one site. There is no way to gauge how fast you are going to rank.
May be it takes faster to rank a smaller website,focus on one niche. My new website targets 4-5 very closely related niches. Around 50 keywords in total. I'm assuming that google needed more time to figure out what it is all about and how to rank it. Nonetheless, I agree 'There is no way to gauge how fast you are going to rank.' We can only speculate and share our experience.
When a domain that has ranked well gets hit on an update, 301 it to a new one and the new one takes its place in days. This proves that quick ranking is still possible. The way I churn and burn a domain is similar. First I do all the work towards my (to be) domain, once I have done all the work, I buy (register) the brand new domain, one that has never been used before. Still works for what I need, medium comp shit.

Ranking has become relatively more difficult over the years or rather ranking techniques have changed a bit. So, results might not be as fast as it used to do in the past. However, it all depends. If the backlinks and reputation of the site is too high, then nothing can stop it from ranking in a few days. But for any xyz website, the few weeks of grace period to upto a few months holds true. If your website is in the YMYL niche i.e. finance, health etc. then it would definitely be rank even in a few months as the quality guidelines are much higher in Google for those sites.
