2 Reasons Newbies Don't Make Money from BHW Methods

A newbie comes across BHW in a google SERP perchance and is completely blown away by what he sees: the money-making methods/tutorials, the inspiring journeys, the downloads section, the no-nonsense moderators, the friendly bickering and the interesting forum fights. He tells himself "this is what I've been looking for all my life. Yes! I can make bucket loads of money just by joining this forum." He quickly registers as a member and start browsing the forum regularly.


Fast forward to like 10 weeks after. He has tried a couple of methods with $0 profit. He has even lost money. He started having a rethink:

• "am I on the right path?"
• "why can't I make anything on a method the OP has called the easiest?"
• "am I so dumb?"

Well, this is my story so far on BHW. I joined last year and I've not been able to make money using any methods from this forum. Yet, I'm not giving up. What I did is to take a deep look at my failures and share what I've learnt with fellow newbies here. Maybe we can learn one or two things from one another.


1. Many methods in BHW are over saturated.
The first time you visit BHW you are transfixed by the amount of information coming at you from all angle. Chief among these are the money-making methods and tutorials but it wont take you long before you realize you can't make any money by following the OP word for word.
That's why you keep hearing the more experienced members say "take a method and add your own twist to it" or "think outside the box". It's so easy for them (older members) to say that but for beginners, these advice will open a new kind of problems. What kind of twists should I add? How do I think outside the box for this particular method?


2. You Need Determination and Perseverance to Succeed
I constantly come across the following scenario on BHW. Some good-natured members will post an excellent method that newbies can benefit from. Then a senior member of this forum will come and bullsh1t the OP and the method. As a newbie you decided to go with the OP and use the method. Along the way, little hitches start showing up here and there, then fear. You start thinking about the criticism of the method, "maybe that other guy was right afterall...maybe it's impossible to make money from this method...maybe the OP is bullsh1t." Then you abandon the method all together and come back to the forum for another method.


Well, I could go on but these are 2 of the reasons I've not been able to make money on BHW. And to solve them I've decided to have as mentor an experienced member of this forum, somebody who can guide me when I reach a dead-end. What inspired this decision? Last month on the WF I was going through a thread in which the OP posted the url of his website and lamented that he couldn't make any money. When I saw the contribution of WF members I quickly send a pm to a couple of them and asked them to please review my site for me. Only 1 person replied but the advice was invaluable.


I now believe that to succeed on a forum like BHW, you'll need a mentor.

If you're attempting money making methods posted on a public forum for free... you're setting yourself up for failure (unless you're only looking to make pocket money).

As you say its way too over saturated. No one gives away a profitable niche for free unless it's already over saturated.

Use those threads for inspiration.

The big money is in your own ideas and methods. That's why everyone says "put your own spin on it".

My favorite threads are the ones that don't give away a method or niche but imply these people know what they're after, i.e "need proxy compatible with <insert software name>" or "need a bot for <website name>". These are the posts you know that they're onto something and now just looking at a way to scale up or automate. With a little investigation and research you can be on to some great ideas

I would disagree with that as fact as there are tons of guys here that do very well that operate without a mentor but rather with the multitude of more experienced sharing their success so they can take from that commentary.

And... mentoring is a no-no here on BHW so it would not fly anyway.

A new guy is better off taking the thoughts of some of the more successful here, seeing what makes sense to them and implementing those aspects into their own method and testing varieties of that new method to see what is successful.

That is actually one way that new methods are born as well and that is really what makes a guy money online.

If newbie want's to succeed, he MUST pass through ALL failures and hard time ... I think there are no any person who succeeded without getting burned a lot of times. For example, I am working in IM about 4-5 years and only this year I am getting where I always wanted, all 4 years I was frustrating, trying several business models at once and failing failing and failing... The reason methods get oversaturated is because people follow them word-for-word and letter-for-letter.
That's also the reason things stop being effective - because too many people are copying things exactly, without using any creativity.

If you become another one of the thousands of people who want a spoon-fed way of making money, that's all you are ever going to be. Because the second that method dries up, you will be back, looking for another spoon-fed method. Your income will always be dependant on the leftovers handed out by creative people who think for themselves.

If you think for yourself and either twist things up, or come up with your own methods, you will get far, far better results. That's why 'think outside the box' is such a great piece of advice.

Unfortunately, it's something you have to do for yourself. Nobody else can think outside the box for you.

There are plenty of people who come to this forum either to scam people, or to make up bullshit success stories in order to sell their shit to naive members.

That tends to be when you see senior members stepping in and calling bullshit.

And when they do it, they are doing it to protect newbies, or the gullible, or the naive, or the desperate from losing their money.

It baffles me how people can say that they have never made any money online after putting forth an honest effort. I will admit that I have a major problem making large sums of money online but making money isn't the problem I just can't scale very well.

As a previous member said, in retro-phrase, one must taste failure and pain for him to want to succeed. Only a person who has tasted failure will want and know the true meaning of success. Success also depends on one imagination.

A method that is saturated should not be considered as something that will not make you money. the most profitable internet marketers (at least the ones I have spoke business with) MULTIPLE income streams. Newbies put all of their eggs in one basket and hope for the best.

Some may succeed doing that, but it wont last forever. You have to do multiple things, come up with your own strategy and schedule, and if you fail at one method, you still have 2-3 others you are working on to make you money. Perseverance is the key.

Nobody needs a mentor to successfully implement methods found here on BHW. All the information is easily accessible, and one simply has to design and implement a winning model/adaptation of what they've seen. There can be a lot of possible reasons a project fails. Often the idea is saturated, and no twist is added. Often the implementation is far from perfect, or technical challenges derail a project. Often - people give up before they overcome the one obstacle that prevents them from making decent money.

Your join date is January 2014, and you have a super low post count, but say you tried a couple projects without success. Are you serious? The first year I was on BHW I tried about 12 projects. Some worked, most did not, but I found the one that made me most of my money for the following 4 years. It could be lack of motivation that has prevented you from achieving your online goals. Have you considered that by basically suggesting the whole forum has no money threads you've completely lost credibility as an entrepreneur?

You don't need a mentor, but you do need to decide to make money online. You may think I'm looking down on you in my commentary, but actually my hope is you'll see I'm right to the extent that having tried a couple things and then given up - you haven't even allowed yourself to find out if you can make money online. So don't pick 12 projects for the next year, but at least put together a solid run at finding out if you can make it online. Take a bit of time, and find 5-7 journals or methods/models, and figure out which ones make sense to you based on your skills ... and then DO at least some of those projects.

If you don't make money after all that, then maybe consider giving up .... just don't think you can somehow put your future in someone else's hands and have them craft it differently than you make it yourself. The world simply doesn't work like that. Mentors ... they are a good thing for the right people, but all a mentor will tell you to do right now is stop whining, and do some damn work.

I consider myself a newbie around here, and even though I'm getting a shot at IM, I'm getting multiple income sources to make me grow as a IMer. I'm getting earned through AdSense in some niche websites (I got multiple but I only work on 2, one recent and one only during 2 months), and get some jobs through Freelancer and oDesk. I would like to earn so much more (who doesn't?) but I'm aware that I can't put all eggs in one basket so I'm struggling to get myself some decent amount of dough and at the same time have time for taking care of my projects with no money to invest... I know that if I had some money to invest I know that my projects would grow and I'd be richer, but I have to go on slowly and researching how I must do things all by myself and properly.

As I have almost no experience at all I think that is the way to go: do what you like and take care about money later. Do things slowly and the results will appear later on. Research, read and (try to) don't give up on this. I may not have a six figure career out of IM but it's all about experimenting, while keeping your normal life (I want to be a computer engineer btw).

No one is going to hold anyone's hand in business or in life.

Life is fairly tough and we each have to forge our own path. Most people will spare a little energy to help others, but no one will give up large chunks of their time so someone else succeeds. It just doesn't make sense to. If you start giving all your time and energy away to others your own business will suffer.

It's easy for me to share a little info with someone or point someone in the right direction, or give someone a motivational speech, but if I start to spend hours working side by side to help that person succeed then it's just charity. I suffer and the person I help just becomes reliant on outside help.

The whole "mentor" thing is a misunderstanding of what a true mentor is that comes from warrior forum gurus that want to turn people into weak-minded losers who think they need to buy the next wso in order to succeed.

A real mentor is not some guy you find on a forum that you beg to hold your hand. A mentor is someone that you choose to mold yourself after. You take charge of your own life and put your own energy into your business and along the way you reach out to mentors asking for some advice and when you can, offering something of value to them. You most certainly don't take up hours of someone's time asking them constant questions or begging them for help. This is what 90% of people who contact me for help do and they end up sucking the energy out of me and I'm then not inclined to expose myself to them.

On the other hand people who I see as being driven and self-sufficient but are just looking for a little help I enjoy helping.

For example your "fast forward to like 10 weeks" tells me that you think 10 weeks is a long time to have been trying to be successful. My impression of someone who says that is they're lazy and feel self-entitled rather than self-driven.

Spend 10 months working in 1 area and then have a discussion with me about what you've tried and where you felt you've went wrong and my impression of you is that you're someone that's worth my time and energy.

The reality is that someone who is fresh off the boat arriving at bhw island has at least 2 years of hard work to earn their stripes. There's no such thing as easy money. Messing around for 10 weeks then seeking a mentor just makes people like me want to avoid you.

Don't take any of this personally. I'm giving you the perspective of someone who gets asked to 'mentor' others and how I react internally. If you want to make good contacts in business then take some of this advice on-board and set yourself apart from the 90% of newbies who just want handouts.

Most things aren't actually particularly saturated. It's just that people are only giving you maybe 70% of the story.

It's like saying:

"A great method for making money is calling up companies and selling them websites." - Yes this will make money, but there's 100's of other things that will determine success.

So let's say someone is talking about some twitter method. They may give you a lot of info, but there's so many small things that will play a part in the success or failure of it. How the person writes, the words they use, the timing of certain things. Dozens of factors.

Now, this means people don't need to come up with some super unique twist on methods to make money. What they need to do is work at it and learn the essentials.

Just like if you're going to run a web design company. Do you need to have some unique spin to be successful? Of course not. You just need to spend enough time to sand out rough edges.

More often than not with making money or being successful in any area the 80/20, or the 95/5 rule applies. 95% of things you try to make the method successful will have a very small impact on it, but when you find that 5% it'll have a HUGE impact. It could be as simple as wording something a certain way, or doing something at a certain time. The only way to find these little important things is to spend enough time testing.

There are some members who will share a method once they're done using it to make it seem like they're contributing to the community. In other words, the exact method that they post will not be as effective as it was when it was first used. Of course, there are timeless methods that are an exception to this (the ones you should be looking for) such as Taktical's offline marketing method. These methods often age well, but they require a bit more work, which is both a good and a bad thing (good because they're less likely to be saturated, bad because of the extra initial work involved).

When someone shares a working method, it doesn't mean it worked outright the first time for him/her. There's a lot of effort/time in testing, trying different strategies applied before it turns out into a successful method. Usually these obstacles/strategies/failures are not covered when the method is posted and are left to the ones who try it. This is the main reason, why successful people can seamless switch or add twist to any simple method and make it a successful one.

When newbies try to replicate a method shared here, tend to set the same expectation of the results mentioned in the OP. When they see different results a little different, they come to a conclusion that the method isn't working and they give up. Most newbies ever cross this phase.

Even if you get only a fraction of the result of what the original method has achieved, you should consider it as success and continue to work more on it. As more effort you put in, you'll learn and understand more details and then the method takes actually some shape for you to try and apply different strategies.

And that's the reason experienced marketers insist on adding your own twist to the methods. Of course, you can't think of any twists/strategies unless you run few tests without giving up after the first time failure. This is how you'll be able to create your own methods instead of relying on others to post them(and the failure cycle continues).

A lot of people join BHW and try to follow OP path to make money and fail but of course your determination should be FOR the money and knowledge. If you start off and research properly you will eventually like what your doing.. money will roll in because you think of many different methods or what i call it "theory crafting".

you start thinking about methods everywhere you go, when you walk around, when you go out, when you sleep, when you take a dump ideas will be everywhere and eventually you will get your own little twist.
