Buying Expired Domain I'm confused here ?

So, I was checking out Flippa dot com and after checking it's Domain section I also wants to sell a domain on it.
So, i Head over to Expired domains website and checked for a the best domain on it. The age of the domain is 10 years as show by wayback machine.
So, I purchased that domain after purchasing it the domain age showing on flippa is just 12 hours it is not showing 10 years old domain. What could be the problem did I've done something wrong.
Please address me so that next time I will not do something stupid like this

Actually what i found out at Flippa is that they are considering Age of Domain as the main factor I bought this domain and I was thinking if that I bought this domain the Age of the domain will remains the same as 10 years but , on the flippa listing it shows 14 hours i.e it is only considering the age of the domain from yesterday the time from which i bought it.

The most important is not to rely on any services that sell domains, like flippa and check everything yourself with whois, wayback machine, metrics tools!

When a domain is dropped, the age is reset.

Just the other day saw a dropped domain reg in 1996. Checking the wayback machine, they had that domain for sale

for quite a few years. Finally, reality must have sunk in that nobody wanted their spammy looking hyphenated domain.

When you purchased the domain after its expiration it renewed 12 hours ago. So that is why it is showing as registered 12 hours ago. Just make sure you add in the domain description that it's 10 years old but recently renewed.

Look, the markup is excessive cause in reality you might buy 100-200 domains and let them expire. One awesome one might get you like $3-10k. It's a lot like the lottery, buy your ticket and take a spin. Also, there is a lot of hype around this. 9 out of 10 people who do this will lose the entirety of their investment. Not my rules. (shrugs). BUT, the hype has value. At the end of the day you need to make a sale. Having the correct vocabulary and telling the customer what they already expect to hear will be helpful. So read it for fun, but realize...if a blogger could easily make $5-10 grand over and over just by picking up $10-70 domain names...heeeee wouldn't be a blogger! He's just as clueless as you are.

Pick a nice name and build desire and mental ownership in your prospective customer. Save all the rocket science BS for a real sucker. Unless, you're independently wealthy and can form a brokerage and solicit high end clientele...there IS NO science behind it. All luck buddy!

Treat this like scratch off tickets. Invest ONLY what you can afford to lose, and have fun with it. Remember an online "guru" who gives his info away for free doesn't care how outdated the post is...he's hoping you'll click a link so he'll make a commission himself before you go broke.

If you don't take recreation in gambling then I strongly advise that you DO NOT DO THIS! There is no "system" nor "formula" or "methodology" here. Most domains...are only worth the $10 you spent buying it...but can increase due to the laws of supply and demand and creating the aforementioned conditions in the customer's brain.

But if you're still not convinced you are welcome to spend hours and hours doing keyword research and then spending same time trying to find a .com that is unregistered AND complies with what your keyword research leads you to. Yeah, the math doesn't work does it? Sure you can get in for a minimal investment...but the "labor add" is a killer. The people who write these blogs never mention that as they don't value their time in terms of actually investing it in this activity.

Example you have a $9.99 1 year registration with $0.18 ICANN fee you have an ACV (actual cash value) of $10.17. You make an average of $40/hr (lets say) at your normal hustle..writing scripts...whatever. You invest 100 hours of your time on various domain names you purchase as you go. Only the original sells. You now have $4010.17 in this domain. You THINK you only have $10.17 in it. And in hard cash...you do. You sell for $x minus the auction fee (15% or so) and wind up at $z your gross sale. Let's say you wound up with $2500 cold hard cash. To calculate your pre-tax net sale: you have $2500 - $4010 = ($1490) That's a negitive number. What you've managed to do in reality is cash-out your time invested at a lower rate than you're accustomed to. And you need to consult a real accountant or else to the IRS this LOOKS like a taxable profit.

I'm surprised not one person has actually answered your question, but rather just insulted you.

The reason your domain isn't aged is because you bought an EXPIRED domain.

Expired domains are different things than aged domains. An expired domain is a domain that's already dropped that anyone can just register on namecheap or a normal registrar like it's a fresh domain. They're valuable because they have pre-existing backlinks which makes them good for either a PBN or a new money site.

What you're looking for is just called an 'aged domain' and you buy either directly from the owner or more likely from an auction site like https://auctions.godaddy.com/. The difference here is you actually pay the auction site and the domain is physically transferred to your account.

If you find an expired domain on an expired domain listing site, you just have to go and register it.

As you'll see, aged domains are a lot more expensive than expired. I'd stay away from domain flipping unless you've got 5 figures to blow learning how it works. It's competitive, expensive and I don't see people talk about aged domains as much these days. They used to be considered great for SEO, but people are more interested now in buying a few dozen expired domains and building a PBN than getting an aged domain.

I agree with splishsplash, expired domains are the way to go, aslo go daddy auctions is becoming so popular, too much competition there and you might end up overpaying your aged domain.

I've been doing this for years, you can flip it by putting contents, articles from article builder, wordpress theme like detube that grab contents from youtube, it all depends on the name of your domain but what i'm telling you is you can sell it.

Even if the domain is expired, if the original links are still in place the power will come back. The best thing to do is rebuild from archive.org tghen run it through lindexed (as well as all the inbound links) so it will get noticed by the SERPs again.
