Email Hosting- Microsoft Exchange Online Vs Google Apps, Alternative for "cloud" hosting

I was looking into Microsoft Exchange Online for hosting my email accounts. I want the active synchronization. I need a hosted solution that will allow me to synchronize my email AND calendar across devices... I need to host about 5 different domains' email addresses. This is possible to an extent- with Shared Mailboxes. With Shared Mailboxes, I can have separate mailboxes that I(only) admin, that have full separate boxes instead of just an Alias that forwards emails to my main email address.

Long story short, Microsoft Exchange has an issue with creating additional "Shared Mailboxes" with the same name. So if I have [email protected], I can NOT create any other shared mailbox with "name"@*

More examples.

I create [email protected], I can NOT create [email protected], or [email protected], etc... It has something to do with what Exchange does in the backend. Whenever you create a shared mailbox with any name(ex. carl), that automatically creates a *Unique* windows id with that name at the main domain. So even if I created [email protected], in the backend it also creates [email protected]. So if I later tried to create "Carl"@AnyOfMyDomains.com, it will NOT allow this. It will say a windows live id is already created with that name(or something like that)

What other Email hosting providers offer QUALITY hosting, AND the possibilty of synchronizing my email and calendar???? It must have global spam rules I can admin. It must be able to fullfill my need mentioned above. I contacted Google Apps, and they will followup with me. But I am thinking this may not work because they license some of Microsoft's technology for some of the backend stuff. We'll see.

I am on Shared Hosting. I want a quality solution that can scale with me. I currently will only be send/receiving a VERY small amount of mail.

What else is out there???

We use GoogleApps heavily internally and beyond their poor imap performance (it acts wonky) everything works very well.

You can setup alias's, sync you calendars, email, etc. across almost every mobile platform as well as on your PC with OutLook (Sync Tool), MailBird, etc.

You shouldn't have any issues with alias's if I read your above correctly, we have 25+ domains on our GoogleApps account with numerous ones having the same preceding name (sales, accounting, etc.). The only thing you can't do it have the same identical alias attached to multiple accounts.

Can you elaborate, because as I'm understanding, this is contradicting what you just said.

Are Aliases in Google Apps the same as Shared Mailboxes in Exchange Online? Where it's a separate mailbox and I can send FROM and receive messages to these aliases

Are all of your domains and emails separate licenses?

All of the domains are attached to a single GoogleApps accounts with each domain is setup as a standard standalone domain as opposed to a global alias domain.

(Fair warning, I can't post email addresses yet, so the below may be kinda confusing, assume a - is an at sign)

Once you have all of your domains attached you can setup all of your email accounts. You can have sales-domain, sales-domain2, etc. without any issues at all.

Alias's are handled on a per email address basis, you can add as many alias's as you like to any email address you create. What you cannot do is say create an alias of help-domain for support-domain and then create an alias of help-domain to say sales-domain - an alias can only be attached to a single email account.

I can attach all of my 10 domains. Ok. That's confirmed.

And

I can just create as many regular email addresses on those domains. I won't need any additional licenses? Since I'm the only one using these

Sorry for the double confirmation. Google has no real support for these questions until you are a client. I messaged and called them

GoogleApps charges per account/email address.

Each time you add a new email address (which is basically a separate Google Account) you will be charged $5/Month.

Curious why you would choose Office 365 over Google, it costs even more no with a ton less features no?

Because under one license, I can have all of my mailboxes. I would set then up as Shared Mailboxes, and they have full features. A fully storage mailbox and their own calendar, and if I wanted, their own aliases. All for $12.50. And that's the more expensive plan. If I wanted just email, I could pay $5/m. Since these are all only going to be run by me, I only have to get one license.
