New UK Member Just Starting Out

Hi All,

I am a mid forties guy living in the UK, married with two teenage kids.

I have been a butcher for the last 25 years, owning my own shop for the last 10 years. Unfortunately I have a degenerative spine disorder and am forced through ill health to sell my business.

As my condition is only set to get worse over the years, I have decided that I would be suited trying to make a living from the internet, which brought me to this great forum.

Having looked around, I was amazed to see just how open, and willing to share, the members are with their experience and know how on internet marketing strategy etc. I decided that I wanted to be part of what looks to be a great and friendly community and so I have signed up.

I look forward to learning and getting to know you all (maybe all will be a bit of a stretch lol), and hope to be a regular face around the forums.

In time I would like to earn a living from the internet so that when my real world working days come to an end, I am not left without an income.

I'm sure I will make mistakes and probably ask some dumb questions, but ultimately I am willing to learn and who knows, I may have something to offer back to the community once I have learnt the ropes a bit.

I want to thank in advance all of the members that have taken the time to build this community and offer their wealth of knowledge for free in an attempt to help newbies like me get started out in Internet Marketing.

Im also from the UK (North west England). Welcome aboard buddy.

I too developed an illness which i wont go into but it forced me to give up my job, which i enjoyed.

Before i got ill i didn't really use a computer or anything connected to the internet. But just 3 years later im starting to earn a living online, not enough to buy fancy things such as a car or a Jacuzzi lol but enough to make family spending more comfortable.

When i first joined BHW i was overwhelmed by all the information, good and bad. I would see a method i liked and started working on it right away, a week would pass and i would see another method i like and jumped on that, this continued until i had a bunch of projects all done half assed because i couldn't give them all my full attention. Basically i failed to make any decent money and it was all a total waste of time.

The best bit of advice i got on here was something like this.. "dont be a jack of all trades and a master of none" im sure you have heard that saying at some point in your life and its one that probably describes 70% of users on BHW. All of which will fail to earn a real living.

So basically what im saying is take on a project that you can give your all too and stick with it. Something that you have a genuine interest in will obviously help.

Your a butcher so you will no doubt have an excellent amount of knowledge when it comes to equipment, such as knives, meat slicers etc and knowledge concerning how to cut meat, de-bone meat etc. and a whole bunch of other knowledge that you can use to your advantage.

How you choose to use your knowledge is upto you, maybe create a youtube channel and create videos showing people how to handle/cut/de-bone meat in all its forms, include recipe videos etc you will be able to monetize your videos with adsense. Maybe create a product review site and write reviews about products such as knives and other kitchen equipment, you can direct your readers to amazon to buy the product and earn a % from all sales made. You could link to your site from your youtube channel.

Im not going to waffle on, just wanted to throw the youtube/review site out there as its a relatively cheap way to get started. There are many ways to earn a living, if you read journey threads that interest you, you will learn alot.

Couple of members i like to follow are BassTrackerBoats and t0mmy, two respected members who know their shit. There are many others i follow but i cant remember their exact names. W130SN is the forums inspector morse, if you see this guy on a thread calling out the OP as a scammer then the OP is a scammer whom you should avoid.

Wow, what a warm and informative welcome.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a great reply and for guiding me in the right direction. Having looked around a few posts, I agree with your statement about Jack of all trades master of none.

It looks like it would be easy to fall into the trap of trying to start many projects without really committing to learning just one. Hopefully I will manage to focus on one project and I appreciate you starting me in the right direction with advice about Youtube videos and review sites.

Lastly, a big thank you for pointing out a couple of members to watch out for and the heads up regarding scammers etc.

i knew from reading some other posts that the members of this site were helpful and friendly, and you have just proved the point.

Hi welcome, given you were a butcher maybe your starting point should be with
1) start a WordPress blog
2) open an adsense account
3) blog about what you know ( teaching meat prep and cooking) actually do what your teaching and take good photos
4) get a pinterest bot ( pm me if you want some advise here i have used a few )
5) open a few pinterest accounts and run your bot. target people following cooking stuff
6) pin your images from your articles
7) use mailchimp pop up for email subscriptions ( no not relay on wordpress for email sign ups)
8) set up rss feed in mailchimp for your posts so every post get auto emailed to subscribers

it will not happen over night but never give up and it will one day

P.S. over time you will have more balls in the air. my advice is make a check list of things you have to do each day. many people find they spend to much time everyday looking at their p.c. trying to remember what they have to do. i have about 30 different things i do each day and over time you will too. add each thing to you list as they come to you so you never forget them.

I am blown away by how much time some members are willing to take to write such encouraging posts to a brand new members.

I will admit that some of what you have suggested has gone over my head (brand new to IM), however I get the gist of some of it and will do my best to learn from the forum the parts I don't yet understand. I like the idea of having a list of things to do as I am guilty of wasting too much idle time on the pc.

Welcome and good luck with your new venture.

As you've been advised, use your knowledge with what you know to write about the things you are expert in.
There's tons of free help on here and you'll have to set time aside to learn, learn and learn some more.

Welcome OP from Notts. The best advice I can give is make a plan and take action! They say 99% of people fail at online marketing, and this is most due to people jumping from one idea to another without giving it sufficient time and effort.

As mentioned above, a blog and maybe a youtube channel sharing your butcher skills would be a great niche to get started in. Make a plan of 50 blog posts, with images and a video each. Teach beginner to advanced techniques and then learn how to reach out and share your content with the right people on social platforms.

Treat it like as long tern business and do not make the "shiney object" mistakes the majority do.

If you have a question use the forum, you will get the ideas and of opinions of many and not just one who may be luring you into paying for something, legit or not.

as for the comment about my location, sorry i did not know that having a sense of humor was a crime. you not having a sense of humor does not make you the expert on who can or can not be trusted. In fact if i was looking to scam some one i would imagine here are the steps i would take

1) lose the joke so people think they can trust me
2) donate and become a jr.vip ( got to spend money to make money) this will make me look trustworthy
3) gain peoples trust by posting warning them about scams
4) target some poor guy who is just trying to help some one he relates to ( i too suffer from Disk degeneration disorder and had to give up my business and knew next to nothing when i started out)

The 'in your mom' thing - to be honest i don't see that as humorous, i see it as a little childish. I mean its something 15 yr olds say. But hey thats just me, maybe it is hilarious. I will remove that bit from my post.

But i stand by the point i was making about avoiding the 'pm me for help' posts. if noobs have got a question its better asked out on the open forum where they will get an array of opinions and advice. People get scammed daily by users who dupe noobs into a private conversation via pm, skype or whatever.

Again im sorry if i offended you.

I don't think he meant it to come across that you were a scammer. Thank you for looking out for us noobs and having the good grace to apologise to Mrleppy for what seems to have been an unfortunate misunderstanding. I was very thankful to Mrleppy for offering me such an informative relpy to my introduction and offering his advice. I can see what you mean about being aware of people offering advice in a way to get you to buy something, and I will bear this in mind as I continue on my IM journey. If I ever got to the point of parting with money for ANYTHING, you can be sure I will be asking other members their thoughts before commiting to the transaction.

I thank all of the people that have welcomed me and offered advice, and hope that you and Mrleppy can agree to move on without any hard feelings between you and continue to greet newbies with your combined wisdom and knowledge that is invaluable to the likes of me and others like me starting out.

thanks for saying that, i do see your point, many people will scam on here and clearly it is harder to impossible to do so publicly so yes they will use P.M. skype or some other means of communication. its a sad fact of life that there are bad people out there and they will do exactly what a good person will do until they do the bad thing so its hard to tell one from the next. some one who will scam might do either what i did or what hawkster did to gain trust and the sad fact is that 99% of the time both parties are good that the 1% gt us all under suspicion. everyone will always ask why is he being nice to me he must have an angle even thou most people are just nice. I have not gone out of my way to offer as much help before because until now i did not really relate to anyone as much. I was a landscaper for years and i have to give it up because what started as a problem with my L4 became a problem with L5 & S1 and would have continued to spread if i did not stop physical labor a few years back. now i still do not make much with I.M. but its getting closer for me and if i had some one to set me right from day one who knows where i would be now and how much time and effort i would not have wasted. O.P. you are lucky to stumble onto B.H.W. early on. I was doing this for about 3yrs before i found this site. I know myself when i first started on here i knew so little and others here were like nsa hackers they knew so much. I felt dumb asking what would seem like a dumb question to them but i did not know the answer. this is why i said P.M. me if you have a question. I did not want t say P.M. me if you fell you have a question that you feel embarrassed asking. I have seen some post here on B.H.W. where some one asked a question and the answers must of made the O.P. feel like shit. smart ass stuff like " that's what Google is for" and just stuff aimed at making the person that asked the question feel like never returning to the site. no matter what anyone says people making you feel dumb kill your motivation and that is something you need a lot of to get by doing this. so my advise to Ikey Solo is this, find some one you can trust ( given what happened here maybe not me so to be clear i have no motive in saying this) some one who will not make you feel dumb for asking questions and give you straight answers and will not kill your motivation. because no matter what people tell you not everything can be explained in Google. sometimes you just need human live advise. because if you post threads like " what does I.M. mean" you will get so many made up responses to make you feel dumb that you will need some super think skin. now most people on here are not like that but the ones that are generally are the ones that look for some one to belittle

hawkster i have no hard feelings and accept your apology. because you have a point it was just unfortunate i was used to make it. you have to be careful who you trust, but at the same time you have to as careful to who you offend in the process. you can't life your life thinking the worst of everyone. one dirty cop does not mean every cop should be treated as dirty. there are so many examples in life where a set of people get tared with the same brush. A male child care worker ... oh he must be an abuser or he is black so he must be a criminal. these assumptions are so unfair the majority of innocent people. i know being used as an example is not as bad as my examples but treating everyone the same as you would the worst version of them they can be starts small.
If you trust people you might get scammed here and there but you will find there are much more people out there you can trust than can not and be better for it in the long run. like the saying goes " don't talk to strangers " well then you will never have a friend.
