Why Tumblr Sucks

How many followers do you get a day from this strategy? Does the number of followers change by how big the blog is?

Honestly on one of my blogs I've only gotten 333 followers over roughly the past 2 months. From that specific blog account, though, I've made $150.41 in revenues on that one specific product that I promote. Not bank breaking, as I mentioned, but that's $.45 earned per follower - which seems like a decent conversion rate to me. Anyone out there with the 10,000's and 100,000's of followers on particular blogs ever track revenue per follower?

Maybe that sort of profit per follower is the norm, but I've always kind of imagined that the method of following and trying to gain followers yourself isn't always the most effective, and it's more about getting the followers who want you and what you offer, I'd also love to be proved wrong - if I can get a 300,000 follower blog and bring in $135,000 - I will happily allow Tblr to delete a blog or two if it means that sort of return.

Also to answer your questions about followers coming on board by how big my blog is or isn't - these followers come for the content, so I don't think it's really mattered much.

I was actually just about to bring up this point. I have a journey thread that I started, where I explain I've been using Tumblr to advertise websites, affiliate links, direct links to products - instead of using a bot to do any of the follow/unfollow actions, I just have a constant stream of content posting every 30 minutes, 24/7. Every post has a link and a clickthrough link - I gain followers from the tag discovery and reblogs/likes. It's no where near 100,000 followers, of course, but it's also led to a very ardent following that I do have, where I know the people who are following me genuinely appreciate the content and don't mind reposting my links with it.

Something to look into, I've been making a little chunk of cash each day using basically three accounts queued to the max - something I'm working to upscale as time goes on. It may not be bank breaking, but it's practically auto pilot because I've never had bans.

Yeah, that sounds like my situation. I've been scared to death since 2012 about the ban hammer and have yet to feel the wrath of the ban hammer (fingers crossed).

I have a nsfw blog on there with 13k followers that drives traffic to my porn site and i put a cpa offer in every post. I have always just followed other blogs to reblog etc there stuff. I dont do follow/unfollow or use any bots and, touch wood, no problems so far. I did get to know one guy who had a nsfw blog with 200k followers. Woke up one day and it was gone. It was someone reporting his blog that banned it.ouch

Tumblr is a gold mine. I get ban hundreds time But i have bank hard using it so its ok

I think the best solution is to just have a diverse portfolio using various methods and just not worry so much about bans as long as your still making a net profit and not being reckless with how you are posting. A few years ago I was using reddit to make some money posting images and even though I was getting banned at least once a day and sometimes 2 or 3 times I was still making a net profit.

Yeah tumblr is a no-go for me in this niche. Put in tons of work and accounts always get closed no matter what. It's not a question of if you will be banned. It's a question of when.

I finally gave up with tumblr. It's too much of a pain. I just sold my final account with 50k followers and am moving onto other things

Tumblr is one of the easiest social networks to gain a following on. I know from experience, having over 300,000 followers at one point. Eventually I got hit with a ban, and lost about 200,000 followers and some good revenue. My blogs were all SFW and did nothing spammy at all. For monetization I simply sent traffic to a quality site with adsense ads. I'm not here to complain, but Tumblr has basically a "no mercy rule" when it comes to bans. So if you want to start a SFW following somewhere, maybe a funny pics, quotes, or humor account, I recommend trying elsewhere. Tumblr is really nailing down on spam, and accidentally is getting stuff that isn't spam in the process. But their support process doesn't warrant any mercy or personal attention to your issue.

So basically if you want to get started in social media, long term, I recommend trying a network where you get warnings and don't necessarily lose everything at random if a mistake was made. I've already learned my lesson and journeyed on to other social networks! If you are all about the churn and burn idea of spamming social networks, or in the NSFW niche, this doesn't really apply to you, but if you're new to the social media thing, maybe other social networks are a better direction to start in!

How did you manage get 300k followers on Tumblr? Is it the same follow/unfollow technique you do with Twitter?

Thanks for the warning though, i know with Twitter you can actually get your account unbanned.

If one follows the TOS of tumblr they will not be banned it doesn't matter the size or how big the company that operates the tumblr page is.

To be fair Tumblr deals with a lot of really bad spam though, a disproportionate amount for their userbase, mainly due to the fact that their site holds decent SEO value and allows porn.

I agree with you and it does make sense that they have automated systems. So much inconsistency with banning it must be because of automation and not manual inspection.

Reddit has a similar automated banning system in place.

It's all automated, I had 7-8 suspension and but got the blogs back but 2. Send them an email and hope for the best

I had 4 blogs with 30,000 followers banned and even after appealing to support got nothing back other than a message about spam/affiliate marketing, started again with 4 more, they got banned pretty quickly (I suspect because I hit them hard with a bot and shared IP) but I had one with no affiliate links and appealed to support and got it restored with an apology.
It was sickening to see my uniques down then check tumblr and see it was gone !

As for followers I noticed that once I got up to 3000+ it started to become exponential, I got from 10,000 to 30,000 really quickly, probably quicker than I went from 0-1000.
