NON Indexed PBN domains

Hey guys, I got a question about non indexed pbn domains...

When doing some competitor research I found that one of my competitors has a few (and very obvious) pbn links - about 4 - which make up about 60% of their total links.

As I dug deeper I also found that these links are all on the same IP address along with another 150+ domains!!! (suicide right?)

However, none of these domains are indexed in google and the competitors site is ranked no.1 for a nice keyword, which leads me to my question...

Does your domain have to be indexed in google to benefit from any link juice? This example would have me believe not.

Or does blocking google from crawling completely hide your footprint?

This pbn i found is clearly from an agency which i also found and these links have been pointing to this particular site for some time now.

I just don't get how such a large (and very low standard) network of domains is still standing and ranking sites.

Yes it must be indexed. You're not seeing his real links.

My guess is that they got busted, reorganised, and built a new PBN that you can't see. Deindexed domains don't pass any link juice because they are deindexed domains.

They may have disavowed the links from the PBN, as a result google may have deindexed the PBNs. They probably have some other strong links floating about.

There is a difference between getting deindexed by Google or putting a noindex tag in the code yourself. I've seen a major PBN service ranking dozens of competitive niches with no-index tags domains to hide naked urls and brand names. So as long as they weren't deindexed by Google, they should pass link juice.

Yes. Google won't pass link juice if the domain is not in their Index. Out of sight, out of power.

The sole purpose of building a PBN is to rank sites on Google. If you want to hide it away from Google, simply don't build it.

I guess the site in concern is ranking with the power of deindexed PBN's that used to pass the link juice while it was indexed. It's kinda like a placebo effect where Google will hold your site's positions even if the powering sites are down or gets deindexed.

If there's no new powerful/PBN links built to the money site, their rankings will drop like a rock in the next refresh.

That is only thing i can think of. The footprints left behind on it are a joke. I May have just stumbled across it as it has just been caught. I will keep an eye on the links to the ranking website and post an update if/when they are removed.Thanks guys

Never heard of noindex tags? Maybe you're not familiar with it, but I've seen a major PBN service (1k+ domains) using them to hide naked urls and brands. So either the site didn't take the drop from the deindexed domains yet, or the owner of that PBN is using the clever noindex tag trick.

Either your competitor disavowed those links as previously pointed out, and build a new powerful PBN and this time...your competitor is smart enough to hide its footprints.

LOL, no you're the one who has no clue what he's talking about. I'm not talking about blocking backlink bots. I'm well aware of that and even write my own .htaccess code which includes ALL backlink checkers with publically known bots.

As you obviously have no clue about, another way to find PBN's is by searching Google for brand names or naked urls. Just try it with one of your websites which has naked url/brand links from a PBN and you'll often see several PBN sites popping up in the results. So that's who some PBN providers put noindex tags in their code, so they don't get indexed by Google.

Next time you call people out, make sure you're not the Dunning-Kruger suffering idiot. It makes you look like a fool.

True that. Matt Cutts himself explicitly told domains with a noindex tag still transfer link juice. Though this was several years ago, I'm completely certain that's still the case.

I find that highly interesting. I would like to do the same myself. Do you know of any data / case study comparing these kind of links to indexed ones? Can I just put a noindex tag in my header to prevent google to index my pbns but I still get the full juice??

That would be amazing. Because it is nearly impossible to use branded links in pbns without them being found.
