More traffic accidents, more work-related accidents, less efficiency, etc...
I know a guy that got his arm cut off at work due to him being stoned on the job, and he gets a check now every day of his life until he dies. He was proud of himself when he told us the story. His employers never found out that he was stoned at the time of the accident. He and his partner "smoked a bowl" prior to cleaning a room-sized printing press, and his stoned partner turned the machine "On" while his arm was inside it, then lied and said he didn't know how the machine turned on.
School bus driver that drives your kids to & from school is stoned. Urinalysis tests ever "x" months, and your employer demanding that you pee into a cup, on demand, like you are a felon on parole. Or you will lose your job if you refuse. Blackmail, when someone's urine will be "dirty" and someone at their work knows it. "Give me "x" or I'll let your boss know you'll fail a UA if they take it today." all sorts of crazy and paranoid situations will arise when dope becomes as common cigarettes.

In what way were they abused? They were grown ups who made a conscious decision to, under safe conditions, to get a little buzz. Not unlike you stopping off for a beer. Except unlike beer, instead of having your mind go to sleep and your body keep right on going with any guidance system if you over indulge, if you overdo weed you will go to sleep.

There are 65 million weed smokers in the US. The majority of them lead normal productive lives, just like people who drink casually. Where is all that under performing now?
Enslaved is a strong word, it implies that you can not do without the "drug" if you run out. You know what happens to a weed smoker when he/she runs out of weed?
They do without until they can get more. They do not go on a stealing spree to feed their habit, because it is not addictive. They wait for payday, and buy it.

Based on what? How do you figure this? With the number current smokers, why aren't these epidemic now? Could it possibly be because responsible people don't drive or go to work stoned or drunk maybe?
How is efficiency affected? If the employee is not stoned at work, then efficiency should not suffer. If they are they should get fired, just like a drunk should. Problem solved.

I call bullshit on this one. OSHA requires tag out/lock out procedures to be done on this kind of equipment when it is taken out of service. An industrial accident that maimed an employee under these circumstances would have involved an OHSA AND an Insurance Carrier investigation that would have involved drug tests of everyone in the vicinity of the accident, unless that company does not have an insurance carrier.
Do you mean to tell us that an OSHA investigator sat down with an employee who told him/her that a piece of equipment turned itself on and thy were the only person in that vicinity, that investigator would call them a liar to their face and tell them to get a lawyer. And NO insurance carrier is going topay oiuiut LTD for an industial accident without drug tests. Its not good business.
Setting that all side, even then the problem was not marijuana, but rather that these two workers went to work impaired and were stupid enough to work with someone impaired too. Their judgement and work ethic was the problem, and they could have gotten impaired on anything from paint to Jack Daniels.

I do not even know what you are trying to say here, but if it were legal, then testing would have to be able to determine if the person being tested were under the
influence of weed when the accident happens. This would be accomplished by testing the level of the active ingredient of Marijuana, THC in the sample submitted for testing.
Since the standard test used today is the Duguenois-Lavine test that detects other compounds in Cannabis, called canaboids. This test is at best, only an indicator of the potential use of weed, because several things can cause false positives, but it seldom produces a false negative.
If marijuana were legal, then the testing would have to be for being under the influence, not just recent use, and these test are extensive and expensive.
BUT in the scenario above, the worker will be better protected, because today you are "dirty" if you smoked a joint a month ago, and someone can blackmail you who saw it. If testing were done to test for being under the influence, this blackmail would not be possible because the THC would be long gone.
If someone came to work under the influence of ANYTHING that impaired them, they deserve to get fired. If you have an unproductive employee they deserve to get fired. Responsible people do not do that shit, and a LOT of responsible, productive people smoke weed.
And we haven't even touched on the medical benefits that have started to be documented.
And lastly, do you know how and why weed became illegal in the US?
