Buying a used car is like making love to a beautiful woman ...
My guess is that the blog posts are written by speculators and not by testers and doers and those that wrote that are more experienced in selling ebooks/products/etc then they are in ranking websites.
This.....
The IM world is full of people who talk the talk, but have never practiced what they preach. I like to call them IM lemmings, as most are just copying each others bs.
I'm actually really tempted to link the blog posts that said they were, as they were very convincing and written by people who have lots of experience with writing about online SEO etc

Please just email them and link them to this post:
They are fucking stupid and shouldn't be blogging if they think PBNs are dead.
A proper PBN looks like a normal site. If you say PBNs are dead, then every website online is dead. And you have to be pretty fucking dumb to go and post something like that.
PBN are not dead, never been dead, never will be dead. Ever!
That being said, if you make mistakes and leave footprints, that's another story. Also there are PBNs (P=Private) and PBNs (P=Public). Many advertise their PBN as being private but sell links on them to the public. Seriously if you advertise it you're asking for somebody to fuck you up, Google included.
If you do a PBN right, you can use the shittiest, unreadable unique content you want and will still work great.
I think biggest problems why people fail with PBN are:
1. Sites are too weak and too few - so effects are small or none.
2. Footprints - what are the actual footprints and what most people think are footprints are two different things. I read many posts on footprints and I tell you 50% of those things in there are not footprints, yet nobody talks about a few things which are massive footprints, and most will leave them when building a PBN. Don't ask me which are, I won't go into it.
If you do it right, after the initial setup which is a complete nightmare and leaving management aside which is another nightmare, a PBN is extremely cost effective and powerful. Not to mention you control it 100%. I'm talking about how I do things. For most people is not as cheap as it is for me, then again most people wouldn't touch a Linux VPS with 64MB RAM with a 3 foot pole and can only cope with CPanel. Also in terms of CMS, WP is easy but is crap and a resource hog. In terms of management MainWP is the best commercial tool but just like WP is shit - lots of crap you don't need and the important things don't exist.
For my PBn i bought domains which had links to huffington post etc and now building GSa links to them.
I have already seen an increase in my rankings. One keyword shot from position 7 to 2 in 1 week. However it is a LSI but still
It's not unusual that initially every site ranks with any links, just to disappear few days later in nirvana if the links and / or the domain were crap...
Most people buy 3 domains and make 3 websites and call it PBN, that's not the case as mostly this are just 3 websites sitting in 90% on worthless domains with high "PR" which is useless, outdated metric and mostly faked.
PBN's are starting with 10-15 websites on aged authority niche relevant diverse domains that primary do not link to any money site until they are set in google and still exist after 4 weeks with some more indexed pages than only the homepage.
Building PBNs becomes nowadays an "art" and will leave only few vendors on the market who know how it's done ...

10-15...god!!!
Michlap, you forgot to include the "starting" part.
Most of the players have easily over a hundred after they get the ball rolling.
