So you have two magnetic plates that levitate an iron/metal ball perfectly in a cylinder that has a vacuum inside. Kinda like this

You spin the ball - giving it kinetic energy. Keep in mind you can give it as much energy as you want (all the energy in the universe) since it'll never spin faster than the speed of light.

Now, to extract energy, all you have to do is add a gas into the vacuum - the gas and the iron ball get hot due to friction. You set up a kind of heat pump that draws away heat from the battery into a cooler place, there creating a gradient = energy.

I've been playing around with the math and check this out:

Let's say you wanted to store about 10,000,000 J - basically enough to power a standard us home for 1 day in a 1 kg ball of metal with a radius of 1 m. sqrt(10000000/(.5*.4)). That gives the bitch an angular velocity of about 7000 rad/s. LOL!

Pros:

Can store potentially HUGE amounts of energy in a small space. WAY more than a regular battery
Can almost instantly "charge" it - getting it going at 7krad/s shouldn't take more than a few seconds at a charge station.

Cons:

Having a big ball spinning that fast has to be some kind of hazard. The magnetic fields would have to be on point to contain it.
Not as "efficient" as a chemical battery.

Any thoughts on how you plan to spin the ball to 'charge' it? It definitely is completely different than most conventional energy storage ideas. The only issue I can think of: gravity will have a slowing effect depending on which way the ball is spinning. So the rotation plane of the ball has to be taken into consideration.


Just throwing out initial thoughts on the idea, I haven't really put to much thought into it.
 
Even if it does work, I don't think the friction loss would be significant enough. You'll just be using low grade heat as input to your heat engine which will result in a low efficiency.
 
Why fiddle with all this when you can create instant energy from the Universe?

Low efficiency aside, this would not work for several reasons. First, magnets powerful enough to sustain a spinning ball like that would surely need to be super conductors, which require huge amounts of cooling, and a first investment of electric energy to get going. Even if you had this thing in the vacuum of space, cosmic background radiation would continually heat the magnets, requiring more power to cool it again. And due to the way thermodynamics work, the extremely cold magnets will heat up quickly (comparatively). Even if you could somehow keep them cool without expending energy (which violates thermodynamics), the ball, which is ferromagnetic, will be polarized by the magnets, making it weakly magnetic, and spinning in the field will induce a current in the magnets, losing energy at a speed proportional to the speed it's spinning at. So one way or another the potential energy would be lost over time to induction (which might also heat the magnets if you're unlucky) and degrading magnets from background heating. Aaaand of course we don't have any known technology to reliably make a total vacuum, especially since atoms like Hydrogen LOVE to diffuse through solid metal and such just to mess with us.

Because no object with mass can reach the speed of light. As you accelerate an object it's mass increases, reaching precisely infinite mass at c (the speed of light), so to reach that speed you would need to use infinite energy (obviously impossible). Fully explaining why that happens needs a fairly strong grasp of general relativity. Funny things happen if you theoretically assume an object would move at or faster than the speed of light. It would go backwards through time!

No, that is a myth. Einstein's theories have been proven and reproven over and over with little to no modification. Tesla attempted to refute Einstein's theory of relativity with his own version of a gravitational theory or even a grand unifying theory (a theory describing all forces in nature) called an Electric Universe theory, which basically postulates there only is the electro magnetic force and the other forces (gravitation, strong nuclear force and weak nuclear force) are results of the electromagnetic force. This theory though never saw the light of day, it was never tested or published thoroughly and later experiments showed the idea to be wrong (the electromagnetic force only unifies with the other forces at energy levels you can at best see during the big bang). The idea that Tesla ever finished his theory or that it was ever proven correct is conspiracy theorist pseudo science.

see if you can get a copy of the documents the fbi took out of tesla's lab. they show how to power a light bulb without using any connection wires. and how to make cars that run on electricity.

A vacuum does not means that there will be no external force to pull your ball in a direction. our universe is full of gravitational force and it is every where.

There is huge difference between vacuum and no gravity. i not think if vacuum can help a ball to float (make it weight less) , but no gravity is what you need (weight is only experienced due to gravity and no gravity means it will float) .

The vacuum is to prevent FRICTION not GRAVITY. Get it? The ball is levitated by MAGNETS - preferably electromagnets, not superconductors lol.
