I have found the perfect replacement for donuts

What am I wrong about? I'm a little bit upset that you are giving people who aren't fitness and health-knowledgeable a completely wrong impression on nutrition.

I'm far from worrying about eating a pizza (a whole one to myself for that matter) or anything else deemed unhealthy, as I definitely do from time to time. You DO realize the way you formed your original sentence was completely misinforming, right? To tell someone "Hey man, don't worry about eating a whole lot of complete nutrient-deficient garbage, just focus on the math man.." is completely unorthodox.

This isn't even factoring at all how many calories are burned throughout exercise routines and an overall schedule.

You're literally speaking as if your entire diet consists of unhealthy, junk foods, which I know for a fact, is wrong. I would HOPE that you are more than a measly IIFYM fanboy and actually eat clean 80+% of the time, which would most definitely consist of the diet of a clean eater. Just because you allow yourself some cheat days here and there, while obviously working out, doesn't mean you should spew random pseudo-facts on a forum with people that could potentially take your word for it.

And having a six-pack is NO indication of great health. :)

Telling people to "eat healthy" is too much of a generalization and leads to disaster as is evidenced by obesity rates. People seem to think weight loss or being healthy is extremely difficult and it's not. Hard numbers (macros) simplify it and if you learn about macros and you take the time to find your macros (or have someone do it for you) you'll find that you can eat a lot of "junk food" and still be healthy and be in good shape.

The OP stated his blood pressure went down and while that may be do to removing the doughnuts there is no concrete evidence that that's what did it. There's a number of variables that we don't know... (ex - was his diet exactly the same before/after the doughnuts). He stated he eats two 16 ounce cans of cashews a day. While nuts are considered 'healthy' two 16 ounce cans come out to 5,000 calories (400g fat, 270g carbs, 165g protein) which is a recipe for obesity long term. I'd rather have the doughnuts. I could eat a dozen glazed doughnuts every day and my caloric intake would still be almost 2,000 calories less than his.

As far as 'eating' clean... you're probably right. I'm probably slightly less than 80% clean. I eat pizza & pasta each at least once a week along with ice cream and often times Chinese.

I stand by my original statement. You can eat a lot of 'bad' food while still being 'healthy' and you're 1,000 times better off learning and understanding macros than you are by following advice like "eat healthy" or "I lost 20 pounds eating only tuna fish". Macros allow you to simplify things.

This shoulda been your first post!

At this point, I'm not disagreeing with you. In fact, I feel ya. But I was just saying, your original post was very misleading. The health and fitness industry as a whole is a very lucrative, devious industry with thousands of pathways towards misinformation.

You seem passionate about it. Speak your mind FULLY my friend, for there is no greater investment in this world than our health.

Yeah I think you're right... thanks for being cool about it. I think I was redirecting some anger from some f'd up IM stuff that ticked me off.

Donuts are worse than many other snack. Donuts contain more trans fat than chocolate and chips. OP doesn't eat donuts anymore, so his blood sugar and cholesterol level is back to normal, so as a result his blood pressure has gone to 105/70. There are so many really delicious things, so why everybody is so obsessed with donuts? Absolutely tasteless, just full of sugar and fat. By the way donut chains change the oil only once every 2 weeks. It's 100% poison

Actually, my OP gave you the impression I was eating a ton of donuts everyday, when actually, before October, I had eaten about 10 donuts in total for the 2014 year. And before June, I was eating a ton of grapes and oranges every week. I only got access to BP machines during the second week of October. Before that, the last round of BP readings I got was from way back in April 2014, and they averaged 125/85.

I'm really not sure exactly what's caused my change in BP since then and now, but I'm guessing it has a lot to do with my not eating fruit since June, and my addition of cashews into my diet.

Btw, what's really strange, is that I haven't eaten any fish or cashews in about 2 weeks, yet my BP, even from this morning is at 95/60... What I have been doing is eating absolutely no sugar at all from pastries or fruit. The only carbs I've been eating are spaghetti, rice, and bread. So...

I've been keeping a log of exactly what I've been eating and at what times I ate it, and my BP and my weight for the past two years. I did it so I could learn why the hell my BP isn't as low as everyone elses and so I believed what I was eating was a big part of it.

And whoa, I corrected myself earlier. I said I ate two 16oz cans a WEEK not a day. lol. If I ate that much a day, my bowels would explode from the fiber. It took my bowels a while to even adjust to eating one 16oz can a week. There's a limit to what my stomach can hold in a day, lol. And I have a very flat/small stomach.

Oops, I meant to say I've been eating two 16oz cans of cashews every WEEK for the past five weeks. Then, again, I did eat 3 cans in a week once.

And as for me being obese, I currently weigh 125 lbs. I have never weighed more than 135 lbs in my ENTIRE life. And when I did weigh 135, it was years ago when I would eat and drink a TON of sugar and no water, and I'd get sick 3 to 4 times a year.

I was weighing 113 lbs before this summer. I thought I was eating enough, but apparently I wasn't. Pretty sure if I stop eating the bread, I'll be down to 115 lbs in two weeks.

I'm glad this didn't turn into too much of an 'I'm healthier than you are' debate lol. Unless you have a specific issue like diabetes, hypoglycemia, or whatever the hell else, I just think you can sorta eat whatever you want. As long as you get your standard food groups in and put in the right amount of physical activities, you're golden. If you start to gain weight or feel unhealthy, then eat better and walk more. It really is a simple equation.

Whoa, I don't check this thread for several days and I come back to this? You know things get serious in a thread when people suddenly start using "quotes" for "every" post to make a "point". :D

If you're a fan of LeanGains.com, he sums it up practically the same way. Eating nutritious (aka healthy) foods in the proper amount of calories for YOUR needs is all that matters. Heavy Metals, Trans Fat, high amounts of Sugar; those should be avoided but going insane over them is unnecessary. Enjoy your life, reach your fitness goals and don't get too wrapped up in the health world. All that really gets me is people who know NOTHING about basic nutrition, but I'm passionate about fitness so. :P

Bread with a spoonful of sour cream for every bite instead of donuts.

That's disgusting. I'm also pretty sure that's still fat as f*ck.

Least I got to enjoy some of the funny clips while scrolling down.. haha. Makes the Thread worth it.

You better believe it!

It might be too late...

No it's not. It's freaking delicious. FAT is delicious. You know what's really disgusting? All those stupid $0.60 cups of yogurt at the grocery stores that HAVE ZERO FAT in them because of the stupid hysteria decades ago of people being afraid of fat. What happens when you take away fat from a food, it tastes like cardboard. The food manufacturers know this, so to satisfy the brainless consumers, they added CHEAP sugar like UNHEALTHY aspartame in it to make up for the taste.

Even the plain yogurt is zero fat. Anyway, sour cream is fucking delicious. I can only describe it as a frozen milky substance that is even sweeter than whole milk itself. See, you and your sugar-loving tongue have desensitized yourselves to the subtle good taste of stuff like this. Like the sweet taste of a carrot. No, you gotta dip it in ranch dressing first...

I actually eat an 8oz cup of sour cream, FULL FAT sour cream with some plain bagels whenever I want a snack. And I even eat the sour cream by ITSELF. It's tasty by itself, it's pretty much yogurt without the benevolent bacteria and sugar, but with the awesome flavor of the dairy fat.

I'm also pretty sure that's still fat as f*ck.

Yeah, so? You're afraid of fat? Fat is good. Your body needs fat. Your body does not need 6 teaspoons of granulated white sugar with your coffee every morning!!!

I'm bulking up so I need more protein and carbs, when high fat is great for fat-loss. Makes you feel full forever.

SEE?! I'm not alone here. FAT is good. In the absence of sugar, fat makes you lose weight!!! And it's fucking tasty. It's what our bodies were meant to eat.

You give me all the fatty stuff in the world, right now. Cashews, pecans, fatty steak, olive oil, cheese and any other fatty stuff that I can't think of. I swear to gawd, I'll be able to avoid eating any type of donut, pastry, or cookie, and any sugar for a whole year. Problem is, FAT is expensive, especially animal fat. Sugar is cheap, especially high fructose corn syrup. So to hell with this.

I just ate a bowl of beef curry (no bread!) and it was more enjoyable than that piece of red velvet cake I ate last week. And you know what, my body will thank me for it.

This is my diet plan now. Avoid sugar/fructose (yep fruit too, and the juices.), eat plenty of fat meat, fat dairy, fat nuts and vegetables, and eat bread and other wheaty stuff in moderation.

I'm not withholding myself from sugar as some form of punishing restriction. No, I'm avoiding sugar because I don't need or desire to eat it. Because I know there's a great alternative... FAT... So I don't feel like I'm punishing myself.

In fact, once you go a couple months without sugar, you'll start lose your taste buds for it and the next time you taste it'll taste like poison, and feel like it too.

I've found another great alternative... croissants. Plain croissants that is.

A full size plain croissant contains about 4 to 6 grams of sugar/fructose. A typical chocolate donut or slice of cake contains 14 to 19 grams of sugar. And a muffin contains 25 to 33 grams of sugar.

The croissants by themselves are fucking delicious, but when I eat them with the sour cream or some whole milk, they're even more delicious. More satisfying than the donuts. I'm really shocked to say. Of course, bread with the sour cream, still absolutely divine for me. But the croissants are tastier and it's nice to know I have them as a choice now.

I've also found a machine at a grocery store that not only takes my BP but takes my weight and body fat.

Apparently I weigh 129 lbs currently (after eating all that bread!), 5' 7", and I have 8.6% body fat and a "hydration index" of 5.77. Whatever that means. I've tested myself 4 times in 2 days, and those are basically the average of the numbers I got. Also my average BP is still 100/70, with my lowest this week being an amazing 93/63.

The next step in my journey/obsession with food is learning how to bake my own pastries but using very low sugar.
