I have been paid every time. Just like all affiliate marketing, don't hide out in the dark. Try to develop a relationship with your affiliates. Their affiliate director is named Jay and he has always been straight with me. They screwed up on me one time and they fixed the problem in less than 2 hours once they looked into it.

For everyone that bitches and moans about not getting paid and this and that, you are probably doing something against TOS.

You really think so? I however do not. I know there are several host out there better than hostgator.

So you saying that is ok for a host to LIE to there customers. That is ok to you? You like being lied to? I personally do not.

Any hosting company that offers unlimited anything is lying.

I also know there Hostgators hosting provider. Might I say they suck as well. They are the worst hosting company ever. They are however cheap which is a good point. Hostgator host at THEPLANET.

What kind of hosting provider that BIG does not even own there own servers?

HAHAHAHA OMG.... That is the building but that picture must be 100+ years old. It is a run down building and next time I drive by there I will take a picture and post it here. Regardless of their building.... Their service sucks so it doesn't matter what the building looks like. If someone is taking care of my needs I really dont care what their building looks like. Unfortunately in this case their service sucks and I wouldnt use them again.

I've used them for 2+ years now for the majority of my sites [I'd say at least 75% of them]. I've ran into several issues at different points in my time with them and each time they were able to help me out. I hear conflicting stories all the time about their support so really can't say their support sucks because in my experiences, they have always been ace. Whereas other hosting providers have taken days [one mfer has now taken 3 weeks to get back at me and I'm about to be really pissed with] just to get back to me.

Now as for their affiliate program, I have had horrible experience with them and wouldn't recommend it for chit. I got my payout a month later than they claimed to pay and that was after like 2-3 emails inquiring about payment. Might seem crazy not to promote them officially while still promoting them by word of mouth, but I don't like being jerked around for payments.

As for their claims of unlimited anything, I really don't care. I'm smart enough to know it's bs, but have used them long enough and well enough to know that their plans support my structures nicely. They are fast and usually that's what I want/need.

You've got a company that sells *unlimited everything* for $5/month, pays you $125 for a signup, and you honestly think they get by doing this by being honest and actually paying out 100% of those referrals? Of course they're going to shave affiliates.. their entire business model is built on shaky math and shady practices, and that's going to extend right into their dealings with affiliates. If you guys used tracking software as an affiliate, you would never lose a single affilate commission. For those of you that are part of their inhouse affilaite program, it shows the IP the client signed up, their domain name and if they have paid their bill.

I have no clue how you people could be fuckin up so bad with your affiliate accounts.

i don't know anything about hostgator's aff program, but their hosting service is just fine. it's reccommended by some of the best out there. the uptime is great; i've never had a problem with their hosting.

and the reason they pay so much for a signup is because when ppl use hostgator, they tend to stick with them.

I highly doubt that is there office for a few reasons.

One they host NO servers. Proof is look up there nameservers you will see that they are all hosted by theplanet. They are just resellers. Basically the planet host there servers .

Two they outsource all of there customer service. So what would they need a great big building for. As a nice play toy to impress people? Be just a hair realistic here.

I can get a picture of a really nice building myself and photo shop my name on it as well. Does that mean it is truly my building?

Honestly just by offering unlimited anything is FRAUD there is no magic drive they are going to put you on that has unlimited diskspace and unlimited bandwith. It just does not exist it is impossible.

The blessing and the curse of the various webhosts is that it is a hypercompetitive business.

Blessing in that they all give payouts in excess of their worth because they're betting that most of the customers stay with them long enough for them to recover their payouts. In other words, they're buying additional customers at a premium price. 90% of all webhosts do this.

The curse is that the money has to come from somewhere. The drive to economize due to their high payouts generally means recycling computers instead of rotating them out for new ones. Too few real people answering the support line. Automating the hosting interface which is very convenient, but can be so cost intensive that the very people you need when the interface breaks won't be there because the host can't afford it.

I ALWAYS avoid hosts like Hostgator, GoDaddy, etc. They may be terrific for some, but not me. I'd much rather be in control of my destiny and work with people who do business realistically. nd give me the support I need when I need it with real live people.

If you want to resell webhosting I think it's much better to go with a smaller firm that has great real live people support. Smaller but more reliable payouts. You will be more important to them and they'll take care of you if they're smart.

After reading this I decided to ask why I never got payment for a friend of mine I referred in January.

Hi, unfortunately this signup was invalid due to the referral being an existing customer with us. We only pay out for new customers who have not yet used our service.

Turns out he had an old account there a couple years ago lol. Always an excuse from them I guess. We both still have the accounts there but will close them just for the point of it. True it won't crush them but every account they can't bill adds up.

I know they say "unlimited" but ...
Is there a cap on the space they actually provide that anyone knows of?

I was thinking of using them for a membership site that would use up about 20 gigs of space for all the files (lots of videos).

I'd hate to get into it and then have them tell me I've used too much space and have to go to some other plan.

Many businesses are head and shoulders affairs, good in some areas, crap in others. Hostgator gets good marks for its core service, bad marks for its "unlimited" marketing hype, and very, very bad for its affiliate program. Other big hosts like 1 & 1 are the flip of this, and are more reliable in affiliate payouts, but have a lousy rep as a web host. Search until you find a service that is good or tolerable enough for you in most areas, and go with that.

simply put: hostgator sucks!!! your not the first person i've heard that has not gotten paid by them.

next time around go with another hosting company that actually pays. i think some more reputable ones are being discussed in the "how to make $500 a day giving away free websites" topic in the making money section.

Are you on drugs? I did not get burnt. Did you read my post? I said I highly doubt it. I did not say that it was not so. I am just saying it does not make any sense to have a HUGE office when they host no servers and outsource all customer service.
