I purchased a Butterfly Labs 50gh/s miner back in April and finally received it. I ran it for a few days and was getting about $30/day with it. But since the prices are so crazy I decided to sell the miner. If the prices plummet then my $30/day could have turned into $3/day

Because Google stock is not in the beginning anymore, Bitcoin is still in the beginning with much more room to rise.

hahah you kidding ?? Google stock will still rise and hit the 3000 usd, i cant guarentee to you that, Facebook is low stock and is promising but i have a little doubt because much more like twitter (very overvalued..) it's full of spam, and in the next decade we don't know what could happen

Mining isn't insanely profitable right now, especially because of all the bad news scaring a ton of people into selling BTC dropping the price like crazy. I think right now BTC will get back up rather high but its only a matter of time until another coin comes along and takes its place.

Unless you spend 100s of thousands on equipment i doubt you can even break even within the year at the current difficulty rate

I recently got myself an ASIC antminer, and then got software from butterfly labs to join a bitmining pool. None of it is working, and I am glad I only dropped 25 dollars(U.S. dollars) into this. I have since been using some sites to get free bitcoins, but the process is incredibly slow to actually get any real money out of it. Any suggestions for free bitcoin sites would be awesome. I will also post links to the sites I use, if allowed, for those who are interested.

I know Bitcorn miners who are making @90,000 a month with 100 machines and they just purchased 58 more. Now, what they are doing is following the big guys like ebay, paypal, virgin records owner etc. If the big guys are dumping millions into the game and if you as a little guy would pool your funds together you could get in. A bitcorn is said to be under valued by 10,000 percent ! Do your homework, now is the time~! All you smarty pants hardware guys could build your own machines and get rich!! Just saying !!!

Bitcoin mining has gone industrial now, it's probably a bit too far out of reach for the average person to pull even moderate profits from.

There are a bunch of altcoins being released daily, which are all much more easier to mine than btc.

Personally, i don't think someone just getting into crypto should be mining at all. Very little profits to be had.

The real money is being made by those that trade altcoins rather than miners.

Well, GPU mining has been dead for about 6 months. ASIC mining s also dead, at least for home miners. In case you are not ready to start mining industrial style and spend tens of thousands for mining equipments, do not go into this. I ve been into BTC for over 2 years now, used to own 7 GPU rigs and 23 GPUs up to a six months ago. I have sold everything and switched to cloud mining, mostly scrypt but I exchange my alt coins for BTC. This has been been highly profitable. Currently I use 5 different cloud mining services, ROI is anywhere between 2 months and 5 months, depending on a company.
What is even better, no heat, no noise, no equipment breaking down, no power bills, no switching pools, no hassle of any kind. Just coins being sent to you every day/week depending on you cloud mining choice. Will gladly help anyone interested into cloud but ASIC miners, waste of time and energy, at least that is my opinion.

I agree. If you really 'must' mine, then I'd go the route explained above. You can mine Altcoins in exchange for BTC. Be sure to do your research beforehand, its a minefield out there.

I've had around 200 bitcoins a few years back when they first came out and they were worthless. I gave a bunch away and tested them on various things. I then reinstalled my OS and never backed up the wallet because I did not care. I felt sick when they hit $200 a while back. Now $900!

I did every calculations with 25% difficulty increase and 0.05 USD/kWh. This is optimistic, it is usually considered that the increase is more around 30-35 these days. This also excludes any taxes, shipping fees, customs, etc.
