How powerful is G?

I disagree.

There are plenty of companies who once completely dominated a market only to be ousted by an upstart.

As soon as a company thinks they are too big to fail, that's when their problems start.

It happened to IBM, Blackberry, Microsoft, MySpace, Kodak - the list is huge.

And it happens more often and more quickly in the tech sector than anywhere else.

Technology changes, society changes, expectations change - and most importantly, customers change.

You can have 100% domination right now, but every year there are a new swathe of kids that become the new customers.

And if someone develops a product that those kids prefer then however big a business is, it is a dead duck.

It's going to be very difficult for any other search engine, whether new or existing, to displace Google as the supreme search engine worldwide, and there's proof of that. Blekko and Duck Duck Go have tried and failed.

Yes it will be difficult but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Every big company loses market share sooner or later and it will happen to Google as well.

They dominate search in today's world but the world changes.

Quantum computers for example will change the game - some kid could come along who 'gets' Qantum better than any of Google's best brains and write a search algo that fully utilises its potential.

Or personalization - you and I run the same search and we get the same results. As soon as someone works out a way to give results that are tailored to the individual, that'll change the game.

Or what if a company builds an engine that lets each person tailor it specifically to their own needs - then we all have our own unique algorithm.

There are so many ways a big business can get taken by surprise - because none of them can predict the future.

I have read recently an article where it says that G is buying more than 50 companies each week.

So, there is no doubt that almost everything on this world has a price. And G has money in billions of $$

What if they secretly bought companies which provide black hat seo software like GSA, Scrapebox etc.

And websites like bhw?!?

And with their online presence they can achieve a very afordable prices, because they control everything.
There is so many ways to screw someones business online, and G has all power to do it.

Everyone in the know already knows Google is about to close deals to buy the companies behind Senuke, GSA, Ultimate Demon, and Scrapebox etc. just to name a few.

Then they are going to buy McDonald's to make sure you can't get a job.

Then they are going to foreclose on your parent's home so you can't live in the basement any more.

You've been warned...

Google pretty much owns search. The only way I see them losing any market share is if they get tired of it which we both know that won't happen. Give up "Resistance is Futile".

Thank you for stating the obvious OP. Yahoo & Bing are still alright sources for traffic and they are not going to give up the fight they already lost to Google. Their goal is not to buy everything, but flooding the market or buying out black hat tools, I would not put it passed them to make an offer.

IBM owned computing
Blackberry owned mobile email
Kodak owned photography
MySpace owned social networking
Blockbuster owned movie rental
Nokia owned mobile phones

It has happened to more dominant companies than Google and it will happen to Google too

Doubtful , Google runs on a completely different business model were they give shit away for free so other businesses depend on them for their survival. Also with Google coming out with shit like Hadoop and buying companies like Darpa, introducing new tech like driver less car's and 3D glasses it's hard to see it happening anytime soon. Not to mention Google makes all of those company's look like shit on the wall. Right now betting against them is like betting against the house. LMAO "Good luck with that"

The majority of Google's profits are based on search.

Once someone figures out a better way to find information, Google's days will be numbered.

Though likely years away, it will happen.

Remember in 1990 people still had to go libraries and look at encyclopedias and other reference materials to find information. A decade later we had search engines.

There is some kid in some garage somewhere on the verge of inventing the next big thing.

It's only a matter of time...

That's my point. What's better then using spoken words to find information.Check this out. Search is all about big data, finding an easier way to filter through a shit ton of information and Google pretty much controls that.

The majority of Google's profits are based on search.

"Once someone figures out a better way to find information, Google's days will be numbered."

Its true that G has some properties they hide from public. But I agree with everyone that G can track whoever they want with their chrome and other products.

That said, media has been implying that Google's days are numbered because a new search engine which they think is far more technologically advanced will be unveiled to general public very soon.

Have you seen Google's server farms... I think it would be pretty hard to compete with that and stay off the radar lol

It is not monopoly on web, because there is Yahoo and Bing, etc. but it is monopoly in some ways.

Google is amazing incorporation and they do own huge percentage of web.

They do not have to buy Scrapebox or BHW to know what are you doing trough that services, they know it without buying them, trust me, they know everything.

They have your Paypal informations, Account passwords, Images, Name, PINs, links, and they grow, and there is no expert in this world who have nuts to publish prediction about G crash or end of this company.

G is kinda God.

They have my paypal information how so?

Have you seen Google's server farms... I think it would be pretty hard to compete with that and stay off the radar lol

I don't think google will remain king forever because it's a new company hell the internet is new so you can't predict the future.
But yeah competing with it when doing the exact same thing it'd be hard to do it under the radar but.... you could do it underground but with having 10-20k employees word would obviously get out pretty fast.

This is bullshit.
You obviosly don't know how things are running. No matter how better search engine comes out it will not replace google.

Why?
Its not about how great the product is ( in this case search engine ), marketing strategy is more important. Google has aggressive marketing strategy and 95% of the users don't care about better search engine that is more technologically advanced, they just want to type cats and see photos of cat in the internet.

And people are used to using Google and usually its hard to change the mind set of people.

You are thinking exactly like google employees. Business world is very much uncertain. No matter how big you are if you don't change your behavior someone else will replace you with their own unique behavior by listening to consumers. Read about the theory of product life cycle. And then check out what media is saying about Vurb.

"Search is outdated. Google steers you to right section of the library, but doesn?t answer your question or compile that answer with others to help you make a decision. Luckily, today Vurb is launching its reinvention of search results in the form of a web and mobile contextual search engine. Rather than forcing you to do multiple searches in different tabs, Vurb collects all the relevant info on one page and preserves your path in a saveable, sharable stream."- Tech crunch

"Disrupt NY 2014 Winner Vurb Looks to Challenge Google After Announcing $8 Million Series"- bidnessetc

"Vurb?s enormous potential rests on a breakthrough technology that will make searching the Internet smarter, more consistent, and even seamless across desktop and mobile devices. " Redpoint

"Vurb sets itself apart from today?s search engines by removing the independent silos and creating a more logical search solution. The goal of Vurb is to put an end to the days where your search experience involves typing query into a blank search box, clicking on a result, and then going back and forth until an acceptable solution is located."- search engine journal

To do well in any business, you need the support of big fish and Vurb has got that.
"The startup seems to have a solid group of investors behind it. Supporting Vurb are companies and individuals such as Charles River Ventures, Max Levchin, Drew Houston, Naval Ravikant, Gil Elbaz, Jim Lanzone, Brad Garlinghouse, Adrian Aoun, Othman Laraki, Raymond Tonsing, CrunchFund and Atlas Venture."-tmcnet.com

People care about convenience and they can kick out what is inconvenient no matter how many years they have stayed with it. I am sure all agree here that Google no more cares about what people want. They are too "big" to do it and this issue tends to backfire.

Peace!

All I know is whatever that kid invents I am going to game the hell out of that
system too and bank hard. Who really cares......bank on the system..

Google is powerful enough that they know who you are through your browser fingerprint, your writing style, your cellphone, and your online content to punsih you with negative information in the punishment slots or 5,7,8,9 when they know the information is libelous. This affects your life in numerous real and non cyber ways. They do not have to know your name per se because they know it from your other activities. Too boot, Google is protected by US law because of the power of their lobbyists and the CDA.

Do you really think a subscription based and email required search engine is going to take off? I don't. I see it as more intrusiveness.
