Google doesn't talk....

I'm finally getting some hits from google but google does not provide keywords unless I use adwords, which has turned into a paid service.
Is there, by any chance, a way to know the keywords used on google?.

If by "google does not provide keywords" you mean that you can't see the keywords users search in order to visit your site, in G analytics and you see [not provided], there is no way to see this keywords even if you want to pay, since g00gl3 now doesn't reveal the searches of sig-in users (and today the majority of internet users use one-or-another G service so they are connected most time...)
I think that latter you will see some keywords, from non-connected users. But as you can imagine the ratio will be 75 to 25.

This. If you really need to know what keywords brought you traffic and other data such as CTR and more, you need to add your website to Google Webmaster Tools.

track you main keywords though rank tracking software, and for rest of the keywords you have to rely on Web master tools ( Though I am not a big fan of it, In fact hate it)

I'm also fed up with it - [not provided]. They hide the top keywords.

Anyways, you can still get keywords here too but they are not the top keywords for your site:

I would rather recommend combine GWT data and Analytics custom reports. You can make one which will show you title of page, landing page url and amount of traffic for it. After combining it with GWT (export data to csv both from Analytics and GWT) you can make a very good research about the keywords and after that using Keyword Planner get new ones too.

Also try tools like Sistrix oraz SearchMetrisc (I love SearchMetrics, it provides amazing Visibility tool. I love getting the idea wtf is wrong when getting new client to work with).

Use webmaster tools at least, most seos use a rank checker as well.

And as far as i know, they started encrypting that data for adwords as well.

they provide keyword data only for hits from ads campaigns with adwords if i'm not wrong.

Unfortunately all you have is the data in GWT as BassTrackerBoats mentioned. Now with HTTPS being spread everywhere you won't even get referral data anymore....

man, I can't tell you how much upset I am with this encryption.

Only, around 3-4% of keywords show in startcounter. Remaining shows (keyword unavailable). It is more like shooting in the dark these days.
