Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

Yes. I saw the same issue with another friends site using the 301 redirect method and they are stuck on page 3 and won't budge. It has been over 2 months. Not sure if this method works anymore

Don't be so quick to write off a method and say it doesn't work just because of one instance, especially when other members are reporting something to the contrary. Also, someone applying the same SEO methods across several sites can come across varying results.

I say you are making it way more difficult than it actually is :) Some of my #1 sites in competitive niches are pushing 30% main keyword...most probably the main reason they are ranking #1.

Well, I am not sure, but are you talking about sites that were already ranked #1 before May update? I guess it is that, because I wasn't been able to get top 3 with pushing with that high percentage after May update.

It all depends on niche, but some anchors works for someone, but doesn't work for someone else.

IMO higher percentage of brand and naked URLs anchor texts is way to go after May, but that is just my opinion, don't have any proofs yet.

One of my site which was at #43 on 14 May, disappeared after the update for long period, later appeared at around #200 for like 3 days and disappeared again(keyword got like 300k searches), and for past 2 days it is now top 10-

Very nice to see that, kind of proof for that mysterious "waiting period" and that Google is trying to demotivate SEOs.

UPDATE: In my case, starting from 6 hours ago until now, more and more long tail keywords are significantly jumping to page 1, a lot of them going from Page 2 directly to top 3! Almost 20 long tails jumped to page 1 in last few hours. I really hope my "waiting period" is coming to its end and now main keywords are on the line for jump to page 1 from pages 2,3 and 4.

Will keep you updated.

A post related to this:

bit.ly/Uubb58

That was a wonderful post on the sandbox. The author used an expired domain to rank his site and it still spent 3 months in the sandbox, but he concluded that expired domains can help a site get out of the sandbox faster.

However, the site's main keyword is a low-competition keyword, and sites focusing on low competition keywords reportedly exit the sandbox faster, so what helped his site get out of the sandbox faster? Was it the easier keyword or the expired domain?

By the way, 3 months is not so short IMO.

If sandbox takes up to 6 months, it really suck. Google really knows how to totally discourage SEOs.

That is the shittiest piece of shit article I've ever read in my life.

This guy "sourcewave" can't even build a website, doesn't know basic coding, can't format an article properly and you really think I'm gonna take SEO advice from him?

And this is just my own opinion. But I'm pretty sure those screenshots are fake. There's no way that clown is pulling in $80k / month when Stevie Wonder is building his sites. No. F##king. Way.

He doesn't know about basic security either - his website seems to be wiped out: source-wave.com

I used to have a problem with my churn and burns always being stuck at page two (well before may), normally the very top. I used 301's of all kinds to move my churn and burns from the top of page two to the top places on page 1. Out of all my stuck churn and burns, all of them moved with 301 redirects.

Thanks for the advice. I did ad some 301 (stong one's) today, will let you now or it did help :-)

Had a bit of success in last week getting brand new sites onto PG 1 for higher competition keywords - interesting article on the topic at headlinedigital.com.au/payday-loans-2-0-update-google-reintroduces-sandbox/

All the info on that page looks like the author just skimmed through this thread and took out the main points to create his article. The real digging is done here and rehashed everywhere else.

I would go a little bit further to say that the real digging is found only by testing and see the results for ourselves. I think we come here to share our experiences as the real knowledge isbeing kept behind locked doors at Google.

Though it makes sense what you said.

I there I am new to all this SEO been doing it for over a month now. I read a lot of beckers blogs and it was pretty basic I learned more on here in two days. I have recently bought an old PR2 domain and put some content on it, 301 directed some old sites I started years ago. Not sure if that will do the trick hope so.

I have been tracking my keywords and notice a lot of them stay on the same serp for 2 crawls then move up or down. however if it stays on the same serp for more than 4 passes it moves up. I then did a secound test and placed a long strage keyword on the page to see where it would rank it came up 1st. I am guessing this is more targeted towards comercial words.

I dont know if anyone else gets the same results, I would like to add it almost looks like a pair of tits at time this graph lol.

My case:
This web site created after than May 14.

I built content - 50-100 keywords articles. Totally 30 article.
I let google to index them slowly - no ping or index service used.
After than 10 days i still not even in first 100. When i search my domain name it shows results from similarsites.com - similarwebsites.com etc.. I wasnt ranking for my domain name but all of the pages were indexed.
Than i bought a sape pack and pbn link from here.
My site gone top 15 with all of the keywords that i target.
1 week at top15 than i decreased so fast to spot 50-60.
There is no warning on WMT but it seems there is a penaly.
What to do now ? I wait 3 weeks.
Than i start to build backlinks again, no sape, no pbn. Direct buy.
Its in top15 again. But started to decrease again everyday 1 spot.

It is hard to say exactly because you did not provide much details, but it seems as a "waiting period". From my point of view, there is much harder to get penalized these days with using normal link building, but it is pretty much easy to get into sandbox where you currently are I believe.

Keep renewing these links you built and just wait. I couldn't give you better advice.

A good rule of thumb: Ignore completely how a website jumps up and down in its first 3 months as the rankings are too volatile.

I used to think that is a stupid rule, but the more i rank websites, the more i see how accurate it becomes. Initial rankings are not an accurate prediction of how the website will turn out.

I mostly work on at least 6-months incubation period websites nowadays. And you know what? Some websites rank in top after 3 months, some don't rank nowhere after 3 months. But after 6 months or more, they all end up where they should. If you are here for the long term and build longer term assets, you should not be affected by any short "waiting period" from google.

If you are going for a churn and burn, I would blast the 301 with 3 - 5 keywords, with a few thousand web2.

Why blast it, the domain has 6k backlinks, 1 k high pr backlinks and 5 k web 2.0's, sorry for asking but i dont get your advice.

Are you not concerned that this domain has been slapped and will only do harm to your website?

I would blast it because that is what you do in a churn and burn.

Yess i was, but i did test it with some high pr links, and it moved up in rankings, so when it responses to high pr links it has no penalty i think.
