Starting an Authority Blog

I had a few questions about planning for my new blog.

What I've done:

• I've just setup my blog, and I'm going to be writing in web design and internet marketing.
• I'm using nibbleblog (very lightweight blog cms).
• I've written 6 HQ articles at 500-700 words a piece.
• Posted the 6 articles over 7 days.
• "Fetched as Google" and setup my sitemap with Google Webmasters.
• Installed Google Analytics
• Setup Serpbook with article titles

What I plan to do:

• Continue to publish one article per day (hand written, unique, 500-600 words).
• Monitor Serpbook

Questions:

• If I'm trying to be as whitehat as possible, am I choosing the right course of action?
• How long should I expect to wait to start seeing traffic on low competition keywords?
• Should I perform further SEO other than using the correct markup (h1,h2,meta data, alt tags)?

Compared to other CMS, WordPress is the largest and most established blogging platform out there. Benefits of using WP include tons of free themes, tons of free plugins for your specific needs and tons of support.

Unless you're really good at coding, programming, want to build a completely custom site or something, I suggest that you use WordPress. It will be much better for the long-term and for whenever you come across issues etc.

If you do not believe so, just read up on WP at Wikipedia

I must agree with Jhtweee on that wordpress offers good support and variety of themes and options. However, if you find that nibbleblog works for you, then work with it, but make sure you know a little more about programming than needed if you are on wordpress.

Regarding other sides of the matter, you seem to be going fine with your plan, unique content and regular updates and on-page SEO. I also suggest you start building links to your site, with social media, blog commenting and guest posting. In 3-4 months you should see traffic coming in on a regular basis. Additionally, if you want to get your pages indexed faster with google, I suggest you submit them manually to be crawled. Hope it helps.

If you're aiming for a authority blog keep in mind "authority blog" has different meaning for different people. I consider any blog with less than 200-300 good articles not an authority. Also, I wouldn't start building links unless my blog is 3-4 months old and has atleast 50-60 articles.
CMS wont matter as long as you have a good onpage SEO. Wordpress just makes things easier for most people but if you're happy with nibbleblog then more power to you.
I'd like to stay updated with your though as I love following authority blogs!

I couldn't agree more. I've been backing away from WordPress due to the bloat for some time now.

I'm a front end developer so I went with Nibbleblog. Love how fast it is. I hope to get an article up every day. Let me know if you guys have a year other tips.

Nibble blog is extremely flexible, I've been able to do pretty good on page SEO.

A CMS itself is not what has good SEO. It's the theme, plugins etc for WP, that make for good markup. You can do the same with any website.
