Can you please rate my cold calling script? Negative/positive comments welcome!

Hi OP
Your script is good, but again scripts are good only to understand and gain the product knowledge, once you know your product well then you would not need a script.

Few rules:
Greet your customer - Hi How are you? Am I speaking to xxx, how are you doing today and so forth....
Rappo building - You can use your own ways to build rappo with the person you are talking, show sympathy, empathy
Introduce - introduce yourself and your business or company
Show reason of call - tell the customer of why you called him, and why you called only him and not just others (example: Well, John I called you up to talk about your business presence on net, however would it be a good time tomorrow around three when we can meet and talk more about it.)

Remember - cold calling is not easy, but if you can get 7 YES from your customer (for anything) you can bet that you will make a sale

As of the gatekeepers are concerned: They would never pass the call since that is there job, so make sure if you get a gatekeeper you have a very athoratative tone while you speak and always speak short, in most cases try to get the name of the gatekeeper and address him or her by her name.)
Example: Gatekeeper: Thank you for calling John's firm, this is mitchell how may I help you
You: Hey Mitchell, is John around?
GK: Ah!! Let me check - well he is a bit busy can I take a message
You: Hmm, well Mitchell, this is something important, transfer the call to John and I know he would listen to me, tell him <your name(James)> is calling

Be authoritative and demanding when speaking to a gatekeeper

Nice work actually taking action...

No offense, but these types of scripts are the same cr*ppy ones used by cold callers all day long....small businesses get multiple times per day hearing the same stuff....they're ineffective.

You have to get their attention and give them a reason to talk with you....a better reason than "we can make your website look pretty"....blah, blah, blah.

you: can I speak with John Q Businessowner?
gatekeeper: what is this about?
you: there's a problem with your website at www.jqb.com that he needs to know about, so I need to speak to him please.
gatekeeper: who are you/who is this?
you: I'm Mike, the website design consultant, this is something he needs to know about, can you connect me please?

If you reach the business owner
Hello John, this is Mike.....I know you're busy, so I'll get right to the point....there's a problem with your website that is likely costing you a lot of business.

In particular.....the "xxxxxx(whatever it is)" is all wrong. The problem with the "xxxx(whatever it is)" is that it "(whatever negative thing that results from the problem)".

I'm a website design consultant here in (your city), and I show businesses how to fix broken websites. I can actually do a complete website audit and we can see if there's anything else wrong if you'd like.

business owner: what's the catch? or what's the cost?
you: no catch....I'll show you what the problems are for free. If you need something in the future, or if you want everything fixed, you'll know I'm available to help, so I'll hope you call me. I'll be in the field Wednesday or Thursday, can we carve out a few minutes so I can stop by and walk through it with you?

I haven't given a lot of thought to this, as it took me about 3 minutes to write....but you get the point I'm sure.

Be different, show them there is a problem/headache, and when you meet with them show you how you can provide the aspirin.

I wish you luck. But website design sales over the phone are tough sell. you have our friends from India banging phones using call centers day and night and their quote will be better than yours.

My advice is to try to develop refferals and get at least first client. better walking local businesses talk to them. start with something small trip wire. you can do local coupon book mailer first.

As for the script, try to eliminate people by calling them. dont go for a meeting with everyone. you will waste your time a lot.

all the best

Thank you astor11. I don't live in an English speaking country so I am not afraid of India's call centers. And I know there is a huuge potential in my market for web designs - many people just still don't understand the importance of web presence

I have my first meeting next week thanks to referral. As for the eliminating - this week I unfortunately eliminated ALL of them in my cold calls :D But I am not gonna give up - I have learned A LOT.

Thanks for the tips cwscontentwriter. As for now, being nice, talking with gatekeepers using their name etc. and caring about them has helped me much more - I've even had a situation where a gatekeeper went to persuade owner to get a new website - unfortunately he was old and mean and we failed :P

Thanks flexpaydude. This sounds pretty decent - but I just can't get enough time with them to talk for that long, they are just NOT interested in any appointments, and they won't talk with me long enough on the phone to get to the point.

When I tell them they have a problem with online presence (I usually tell them that I've found them on the yellow pages and I would like to meet with them and talk about their online presence and missed opportunity) they just aren't interested and won't talk to me. Also, your example is for already existing websites, I mostly called people without websites they were even harder to talk to than those with already created sites. The furthest I got to was "plz email ur offer, kk thx bai" :/

honestly it's pretty hard to just have a script for cold calling. If you're spending time doing this cold calling yourself, I'd say you're better off going to these businesses in person. From my experience in working for a real business, these cold calls and emails come in allllll day, and I don't give them any attention. The only people that get my attention are the ones that come in to meet me in person. Sure, I understand cold calling might get you some clients, but I think meeting them in person will land you more clients for the time that you spend. Either way, it's great that you are doing anything at all

Thanks nikchaing, I am not trying to sell them anything on the phone other than the appointment itself. I have already considered getting my foot in the door using the most oldschool way but so far I still want to practice my cold calls - while talking to few clients I've seen some interest but I just know I sucked in the call - I could have closed them for the appointment but I failed miserably. I've studied the SPIN selling recently and tried to modificate my conversation using the info I've found there but I just can't seem to hook them up for long enough on the phone :/

Hi there!
Did you have success with the cold calling for design purposes?
I'm als willing to give it a try.

Thanks

You need to raise your status level. Your script seems like your begging instead of you being powerful. You need to create higher status for yourself and take more of an authoritative approach.
