Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

Ye same here bros so fucking annoying isnt it, day after day you wake up to check your serps only to see them FROZEN in exactly the same places or worse kws vanishing in the night never to be seen again.

The waiting period seems more like an indefinite purgatory with no end, similar to stalin's dreaded gulags.

Some sites I had 3 months and no change, I start new ones again with the tiny grain of hope if I do something different I will evade it, but oh no the kgb has it's eyes everywhere.

I think it's more likely an instant penalty or simple downgrading of previous links. Ie to rank you need x, y, and z links in such and such amounts and if we only build x or y then we will stay in those pitiful ranks forever.

I think the difference now is that whereas before you could overcome these ruts with enough links and resolute blasting, now no matter how many links you pump on it makes no difference if you don't have the other mystery ingredients in the pie.

Yes i have seen the same pattern for 10 + sites i built in past 1-2 month. Looks like this is even the bigger update then all previous panda and penguin updates, this waiting period might be just for high volume keywords because i work only on such keywords. I think such update is done to scare away those people who are in for quick bucks and churn and burn sites. Waiting period can be 1-4 months i guess, and i think most people will give up unless they find some miracle link source which can break this new algo.

I can assure you the same thing is happening with low volume keywords.

I personally don't rank YouTube videos - But after May 14 I've tried ranking aged domains, new domains, etc and the results have been pretty much the same. I can pump a site up to top 20-50, but it just gets stuck there no matter how many / quality of links I pump at it. The waiting period is only logical conclusion I was able to come to regarding this. Also we're not talking about just spam - I have a very large private network and direct access to SAPE. I've tried building only PBN + super hq sape and the results were the same. Let's hope it only lasts a month - possibly the most annoying update ever by G.

I support your statement, with super high pr links, Im talking about pr5 to pr6 upward with PBN and sape style links, some of my personal sites are not budging from page 2 or page 3.

Yup noticed this as well. It's pretty clear it's set up to target churn and burn.

Set the timeline so a new site / page has to pass a panda and penguin update before properly ranking it. Im surprised they didn't do it earlier though. The waiting part is a killer alright, but glad to see sites coming out of it though.

I agree entirely that there is now a 'waiting period' (for want of a better term).

HOWEVER - it is not automatically applied across all keywords. Four days ago I set about testing what it may or may not apply to - and, in the space of just 24 hours, I ranked #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, AND #8 for "this super long silly keyword with absolutely no search volume" (no, not that exact phrase, but a stupid long phrase like that). Those rankings are still there today. Importantly - I just made a blog post on a high authority domain, and it ranked itself without me building any links at all.

It is possible that this 'waiting period' applies perhaps only to keywords with monthly search volume >x.

On another (possibly relevant) note - about a week after this recent update, I started work (placed a dozen or so PBN links) on a site of mine that was ranking #39 for a keyword with 6,600 monthly searches. Within a few days of placing the links on my PBN sites, it had gone to #12, then 48hrs later went to #23 where it has remained. So - would it have stayed at 12 before the update? Would it have ranked higher? I don't know.

This update is in line with what I've been saying for some time now - if G really wanted to stop churn-and-burn rank spammers, they need only apply a ranking delay, because I imagine that the vast majority of people who play that game have no staying power.

The balance, on the other hand, is that Google needs to maintain fresh and accurate results when a user searches. I don't doubt that their engineers would have had plenty of discussions about the fact that if they introduce a ranking delay, they will risk making the user experience worse.
I do consider, therefore, that Google would have taken steps to try to limit the application of this ranking delay to sites that are actively chasing down a higher ranking - and when we figure out what signals they're using to define 'actively chasing down a higher ranking', we'll have a better collective body of knowledge on how to deal with that.

I for one, however, don't really mind a delay. I'm pretty happy to know that IM has become a patient mans game - because my competition just got reduced by 90% overnight :)

Interesting.

Do you see this waiting period for any rankings ?

I'm asking as I'm testing PBNC (new tool request by BHW users, soon beta tests and then release, not available to public right now) and I can see that many blogs created recently not only is indexed but also getting rankings for top10 (often top1) long tail keywords in matter of days.

Attached pic.

I'm tracking only small part of keywords (as I creating xxxx of backlinks every day and I would need to spend a lot of time to track whole network rankings) but it's happening either UK or US Google.

Yep, I'm definitely noticing it too. It would take 2 to 3 weeks to rank for the terms I target. They just stuck; won't budge.

Same with yt videos, spent tons of money testing different things, still can't crack this new algorithm :)

funny thing is , BST section services still claims ranking in few weeks :) . i tested sape, GSR, no movement in churn and burn.

I agree with tony. I have experienced basically the same. Some keywords rank real fast then get pushed down and stay there for a while, while some keywords that basically get no searches at all rank perfectly fine.

An interesting point i think no1 else has mentioned. how is your onpage SEO all you guys? Cos mine sucked! and ppl have only just pointed it out to me. Although google has refreshed the cache and it hasn't made a difference unfortunately, interested to hear how others' onpage is who complain of this phenomenon because SUPPOSEDLY you should be able to rank on front page with onpage alone sometimes if it's good enough, though I don;t believe this unless you had some serious siloing maybe and a huge content rich site.

Penelope let me give you a quick lesson on SEO... On page doesn't matter!

lol I can agree with this to a certain extent. My homepage literally has no words, just a flashplayer for my niche and I am ranked top 10 for a good number of keywords. Page Title, Meta Description and anchor text diversity are what it really comes down to in my specific case

I like that someone has pointed out this observation though. Looking back at alot of my graphs, I can see the correlation with what looks to be like a waiting period before Google ranks my pages. I'll be interested to see other users thoughts on the topic

I've noticed this exact same thing...has anybody considered purchasing aged expired domains to get around it? I'd be interested in seeing a case study whether this is a whole domain, or just a fresh page penalty. I'm thinking this update targets new pages, since some of my new content on my old sites is taking much longer to rank.
