Hi there,
I have an account on a game cheats forum and like 6000 posts on there (Was pretty active). Since I'm slowly building backlinks to my money site (that is related to gaming cheats), I decided to put into my profile the Root domain as my homepage. I checked today the backlink profile and noticed that I suddenly have 150 backlinks from that forum (because of the posts I guess). Is this seen by Google as spam? I actually thought that it's gonna be counted as one backlink only...

PS: They're no follow
Thanks!

I dont think so. Its not spam as you have mentioned your site into your profile. I think you will be okay with it.

According to Google this could be spam if anchor is stuffed with keywords:

Forum comments with optimized links in the post or signature

Nah, if you did this on this one forum only, it can't be considered as spam. It's natural thing to do...

Well, I think the anchor is "visit homepage" or something like that.

To our eyes it ain't, but in google eyes it's a link you have built for yourself so it is against their webmaster guidelines and could be a legitimate reason to spank you.

Now if your question is : is what I did enought to raise a redflag , the answer is no you are safe :)

it's natural.
just keep check on overall anchor text.

Do not listen to this person, they do not know what they are talking about.

Google has no problem with you building backlinks to promote your business. They have a BIG problem with you building backlinks in an effort to affect the rankings.

The idea that there are no such things as a legitimate self made backlink is absurd. Google can't even exist without links.

There is no way a link from your facebook page or any other legitimate form of promotion will ever be considered spamming links.

It is considered participation in your niche, as long as you are not spamming thousands of them.

For the record though, I have seen improvements with local businesses when they drop their forum links, when they were using keyword anchors with Do****** links. (which is considered link spam now, especially on a forum signature)

Since your links are non keyword anchored, no****** you should be fine.

Allright, If "ever" you start ranking good and your website starts pulling you money , and then google just runs a random algo update or decides to manually review your website and you get spanked. Then you will go to the google webmaster product forum and the first link a google representative will tell you is that you are not supposed to have these kind of links.

Now to make things clear, I do not agree with these policies, in fact I've never went whitehat and I always build links a spammy way.
In fact you can check a recent thread I opened about having a "pure spam" manual action.

But I would not lie to Op telling him that it is fine to manually build links to yourself. Promoting, participating : Google employees don't give a f**k about it, It is still an unnatural link , and the best they would tell you is that you should nofollow that link.

If you will follow Google guideline for link building than every single link that
you build will come under the spam radar.

Google advocate in getting links not building.

So stop worrying that much ... if the forum have authority and provide
great content than you are safe but if forum is crap than this is the
matter of worry.

I consider this will be safe as you are not anchor text spamming.

I think, Google will not count as a spam, Its Natural. But dont build this type of link hugely.

If what you believe is true, why does Reputation Management work?

I really don't see any relation between the question of the OP and ORM . Eventually when you'll create some new properties to outrank the bad reviews or whatever, you'll start ranking them , but as soon as there is an update or whatever, these properties might loose rank and the bad reviews come back to the serp.

I'm just telling Op that whatever link you build if it doesn't hold a n0f0ll0w attribute, it is considered as unnatural by the team of d0uches working for google or participating in their product forums. I'm not saying that it ain't relevant or it doesn't add value or bring relevant traffic blah. I'm just saying "google" point of view.

AH, I see. You have read this,. and heard people say this and now it is your mantra.

But since Google has put out guidelines about link schemes, lets see what they really say:

Code:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en

What is not allowed:
Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.

And they address instances where you can actually build links on purpose: (bold is mine)

Excessive link exchanges ("Link to me and I'll link to you") or partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking

Is not a link exchange building links on purpose? I think that even you will have to agree that the word "excessive" means that there is an acceptable threshold that you can build backlinks on purpose without penalty.

And this is the BEST way to get links (not the only acceptable way)
The best way to get other sites to create high-quality, relevant links to yours is to create unique, relevant content that can naturally gain popularity in the Internet community. Creating good content pays off: Links are usually editorial votes given by choice, and the more useful content you have, the greater the chances someone else will find that content valuable to their readers and link to it.

The entire page is below.

Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.

The following are examples of link schemes which can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results:

Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a "free" product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link
Excessive link exchanges ("Link to me and I'll link to you") or partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking
Large-scale article marketing or guest posting campaigns with keyword-rich anchor text links
Using automated programs or services to create links to your site

Additionally, creating links that weren't editorially placed or vouched for by the site's owner on a page, otherwise known as unnatural links, can be considered a violation of our guidelines. Here are a few common examples of unnatural links that may violate our guidelines:

Text advertisements that pass PageRank

Advertorials or native advertising where payment is received for articles that include links that pass PageRank

Links with optimized anchor text in articles or press releases distributed on other sites. For example:
There are many wedding rings on the market. If you want to have a wedding, you will have to pick the best ring. You will also need to buy flowers and a wedding dress.

Low-quality directory or bookmark site links

Keyword-rich, hidden or low-quality links embedded in widgets that are distributed across various sites, for example:
Visitors to this page: 1,472
car insurance

Widely distributed links in the footers or templates of various sites

Forum comments with optimized links in the post or signature, for example:
Thanks, that's great info!
- Paul
paul's pizza san diego pizza best pizza san diego

Note that PPC (pay-per-click) advertising links that don't pass PageRank to the buyer of the ad do not violate our guidelines. You can prevent PageRank from passing in several ways, such as:

Adding a rel="nofollow" attribute to the <a> tag
Redirecting the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from search engines with a robots.txt file

If you see a site that is participating in link schemes intended to manipulate PageRank, let us know. We'll use your information to improve our algorithmic detection of such links.

Perhaps you can tell me exactly where it says you cannot build any links?

By the way, a side benefit of REP mnagement is that the company gains a huge web presence and their site almost always starts to rank higher. A 50 percent improvement in traffic is not uncommon. That is the relation you did not see.

What are your analytics reports telling you? its always worth comparing a before and after when you do something like this

If it was Nofollow and a blank URL or other generic anchor it is not spam. Google does not care for Nofollow links that dont pass page rank.

If this link is Do-Follow and you are building upon these links, Yes Google can consider it spam. As they are man made and pass page rank.

If the Link is Do-Follow I would use URL, generic or Brand Name as anchor
