Panda 4.0 Ranks Crap Sites??

lol every update is like this, I don't know why people are surprised.

When you try to update billions of webpages, sorry there's going to be collateral damage.

Google is not perfect, it is what it is people.

Pull up your panties and get back to work.

One of my spammed site is back in Google, I love this update. :)

Backlinks analysis tools are quite limited, often isleading with regards to anchor distribution and all. They would pick most links google would refuse to index and miss out on more important ones that are open to google alone for crawling.

People love to keep pretending that you can block all of these crawlers effectively, this isn't so at all. In fact, no matter how you try (robots.txt, htaccess, etc) they will often still ignore it. Furthermore, this is also a huge footprint for google to check up on network links.

A lot of these crawlers don't even identify themselves properly. Sure it takes a bit of sleuthing to find links, but it isn't hard.

Then why do none of my PBN links (the ones where I block the crawlers) show up in Ahrefs, Spyglass, OSE and Majestic?

It's funny how personal experiences are presented as facts.

If the crawlers don't identify themselves as you expect you're dealing with an incomplete list of user agents or perhaps you're a little clueless how to properly block them.

Weren't you the guy claiming that private blog networks based on expired high PR domains are less effective then your pr n/a web2.0 pyramids? Seems you haven't learned much since and it sure has been a while.

Yep, yep, long time lurker!

So you are saying that BHW link services are working as advertised? That's actually a great thing to know.

!

You seemingly still think I use web 2.0s a lot, not sure why you think that since I last spoke on that front at least 2 years ago. I have a network that has over 1000 sites in it now.

However, your links can be found, rest assured. I could probably find all of them without even going to any 3rd party crawler at all just by footprints on your network. I've done this before, many times.

A footprint on your topic for your site, a url from your site + this ("user-agent" "robots.txt" "AhrefsBot") will generate every single backlink you have. And this is in google....

Who are you trying to protect yourself from exactly? Because any semi decent SEOer will figure out every link they want to figure out. I do this on a regular basis already. Even if you're really smart and don't go through robots.txt (which isn't entirely effective if you don't) I'm positive I could locate all sites in your network.

If you really really care about your PBN, design a plugin that removes all external links when certain bots show up.

do you care about PR when you build PBN?

Really ? Google PR metric is dead ? Moz DA metric is everything ?

Putting words in other people's mouths... what a waste of time. Google PR used to be the metric to go off of, I'd say back in 2012 or so. However, it's undoubtedly not as important as it used to be. I use about 12 metrics, including manual inspections of almost all of the links a site has. PR is one of them, but before it was easy to just buy up lots of high backlink count high PR sites.

Well, this might be temporary, wait for a couple of days/weeks to settle down, we'll see if crappy sites remain at top.

I just searched a client site of mine with:

site.com + "ahrefsbot" "robots.txt" "user-agent"

Not a single result in Google, while that site has 20 links from my network.

Obvious this can work to a certain degree but only when the URL is used as anchor text and then you don't even need to add the ahrefsbot robots.txt and user-agent stuff.

Even when I take it one step further and type in my main keyword that I like to rank for (which is multiple times used) only 5 results show up and none of those sites belong to my network.

I have a good idea why this doesn't work, as this string of robots, user-agent- ahrefs returns a robots.txt page obviously and that page does not contain my money site URL or money keywords so it would be impossible to find my network that way.

For your pleasure I even took it one step further.

I copied the first 5 lines of my robots.txt in Google and put it within quotes, again not a single one of my network sites show up.

Now when I type in only the URL of that specific site in Google I do see 3 of my network sites show up. Now obvious I could block the user-agents from tons of web browsers but that wouldn't change a single thing as then they could only not visit my private network site but it would still show up in Google.

To get back at your original statement as that is what I commented on (instead of side railing it to that you can find PBN sites in Google:

"In fact, no matter how you try (robots.txt, htaccess, etc) they will often still ignore it."

NOPE they will NEVER ignore it when you set it up properly.

PR is still the most important metric of all since it comes from Google obvious, despite the delay but the first thing you do when looking to buy a domain is check the back link profile.

I only use other metrics to filter down the lists and save some time, when you see a domain with DA40, TF10, CF20 then it's easy to throw them out of your list as it's most probably spammed to death.

When filtering down based on external metrics you need to make sure that all the stats are on the same line, for example:

DA25
PA35
TF20
CF15
MozRank3
MozTrust3
PR3
AhrefsRank: 40

Is most probably a legit PR3 domain.

If you would only rely on MozRank3, MozTrust3, DA25 you will end up buying a ton of crap.

Same if you would only rely on CF15, TF18, PR3, you also end up with a ton of fake shit.

Actually many crawlers will ignore your robots.txt totally and you can write/buy your own spider scripts in Perl/Python/PHP
Robots.txt is more of a request.

You can block bots with your .htaccess but only when you have identified the bot, by which time it could be too late.

Uhm, if you read what I wrote you already saw that I have no problem blocking all crawling bots with the robots.txt and .htaccess file, in fact 150+ bots.
