This is for people getting started to not make the same mistakes as me.

I've done a lot of reading on BHW and thought I'm ready. I picked my niche, went to google adwords, checked my keyword, it had 2k searches a month, low competition and 1 mil results in google search. I thought it would be great to start with something small and rank it to #1.

Wrote some articles around my niche, keyword and a clickbank ad. Bought my hosting and domain. Installed the WP plugins to help me with SEO, security, cache, sharing. Modified my articles to be more SEO friendly, I made logos for each article. Made a twitter account and shared my updates there.

Last week I checked my ranking, I was #14 in Google. I checked it yesterday again, I'm not even in the first 20.

Conclusion: If you want to get into SEO, you have to know a lot more than what I just said to be successful at it.

Hi OP,

Thank-you for sharing, glad to learn from people's mistakes. I wish you well for your future success.

Admitting your mistakes and learning from them is one of the most important steps on the road to success.
Congrats on your failure, you will benefit from it later on.

That is the common mistake for any activity. First we think, that it would be fast and easy to know something. After that we are sure that we know that. After that we fall.

And only then our path of beginning a specialist starts.

Everyone has to start somewhere OP, it's great to see that you can reflect on your experience and learn from it.

Trial & Error is a part of growing your own SEO strategy. Learn from it, adapt to it and try again! :)

This is no reason to give up, learn from your mistakes and get better, read a lot, try the things that you learn and then see what works best for you.

When did you publish your first post? It can be because panda update or it can be just Google dance and you can come back much stronger than you was.

Hi,

After introduced Panda and Pengiun, SEO is totally changed. You to be up to date and exploring new things, try new thing in SEO, if you want to be on top.

Thanks

Well sorry to hear that happening to u - But Im so sure that - 99.9% of us have gone through the same thing... We just have to keep trying no matter what! :)

You talked about seo, but i don't see any link strategy. You can't rank without links.

Yes SEO is patience. Made the same mistake with my last project, got me to page 97 (from page 2). Sht happens, just use your experience on your next project.

Well i guess the rankings you saw could be because of honeymoon effect for new site and you didn't do much to rank for long as there was no backlink strategy and without backlinks i dont think you can rank for any competitive term.

I agree, I'll get back at it when I learn more about link building. I have a list in WP of a hundred pings or so, but it didn't help. Next I'll try Testimonials, Fiverr, Scoop It and make more social media accounts.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging posts, I'll keep doing it until it succeeds.

SEO takes few weeks/months (depending on M/S - competiton). So giving up or saying that you did a mistake after few weeks is not so good. You have to be steady and patient. I'm sure this is just a google dance, just keep up building links/whatever.

learn, try different things, fail, try again, fail again, learn from all mistakes, try, success = PROFIT
