Hi!

I have around 10 domains that got penalized in April 2012 (Penguin 1). Domains had been spammed with lot's of blog comments (but good ones, only blogs where I spammed my comments with links, noone else).

Sites lost 95% of traffic and ranking and never came back.

I am running the following experiment now, and will tell you how it goes:

1) I created 5 new google webmaster accounts and added the 10 penalized domains (2 per webmaster account).
9 domains did not get a link warning, 1 domain received a link warning and got manually deindexed for 2 years now, bcz of the use of a link network.

2) I used webmeup detox service to get a list of all dangerous links per domain. Then created disavow files. Submitted them to google.
Around 10% of the links showed up as deadly, around 40% as dangerous, 50% of links good. I disavowed all deadly links + half of the dangerous links (I just kept the links with risk < 60%). So I disavowed around 30% of all links.

3) I wait for 3 weeks <- I am here NOW. Nothing happened so far. No changes in traffic or ranking.

As there is no change in the ranking after 3 weeks of waiting, I assume the disavow alone does not help and my plan is now:

4) I will register 10 new domains and put some unique content on it that is related to the content on the old penalized domains.
5) I will build 500 links from youtube and vimeo to these 10 new domains. These links worked pretty well for me to rank websites atm (they are nofollow, but it works very well somehow).
6) Then I will wait 2-3 weeks

7) I will put the content from the penalized domains to the new domains. Then 301 from the penalized domain to the new domain, so that Google understands that the content is now on the new domains.

8) 2 Options: Either the 301 will work and the new domains will not get penalized, then I will keep the 301 in place. OR the new domains get penalized, then I want to remove the 301 redirection and replace it with a javascript redirect, so that the penality does not get trough.

My objective: I want to "rescue" the content on the penalized domains and give it a chance to rank again, on new domains. The content is a lot, all hand made and very unique and some very good sales letters on these penalized domains.

What are your thoughts? Will this work ?

Thanks a lot

PS: Other option that I am thinking about is just disavowing 50% of all links on the penalized domains, then start building only good "white hat" links to the domains. But this seems to be quite risky as I don't know if the domains will ever come back, so the work on the new good links could potentially be waisted.

disavow more. you're lucky if you end up with 15-20% of the links that show as being 'good links' in linkdetox.
that tool is just a mashup of moz and majestic metrics with an added OBL calculator.

also when they remove the penalty you will receive a notification in your WMT

There is a lot that suggests that any fixing you do will only be acreditted with the next penguin update. The last one was in October and you only just did the disavowing. That basically means that it is impossible for anything to have happened yet. Its quite likely that the next penguin update is coming within this month. So I would wait until the update passed to see whether disavowing the links worked before I do the 301 redirects. If the websites don't go up after the update goes through you can still do the 301 redirect.

In the past I have recovered a few projects from penguin with 301 redirects, it does not always work though. Also, they usually only get recovered for 2 weeks - 3 months. After that the penalty passes through. I have never waited as long as you have between penguin and the 301 redirect though. I usually do them within 2 weeks of the update. So I have no idea whether the delay might change anything.

Probably you did the disawov incorrect and you didnt file a reconsideration request. Its really easy to do.

From my 10 penguined domains, only 1 got a manual action (domain deindexed from google). I filed a reconsideration request for this one after having disavowed around 40% of all links (based on webmeup linkdetox anlaysis). I did not receive any response from google in WMT.

The OTHER 9 domains are only algo penalties, therefore it is not possible to do any reconsideration request. As far as I understood, you can only do a reconsideration request after a manual action.

That's why my idea is:

1) I do the 301 to tell google that the content on the penalized domain now belongs to the NEW domain.
2) After say 2 weeks I remove the 301 redirect and replace it with some javascript redirect, so that the penalty cannot get through. Now the content is on the NEW domains and I can start building backlinks to rank them. So the content is rescued but the whole backlinks that are causing the penalty are cut off.

Little brutal method, but just an idea.

Javascript redirect doesn't pass penalties?
I don't know, never tested it... That's why I post my ideas here... To evaluate what can work and what not...

I love how BHW has a bunch of liars. Google doesn't deindex a site for spam links. You're either a liar or a really crappy SEO who doesn't know how to use the site operator.

2012? Experiment on this one, buy new domain, point at old website and start again, make money.

Recovering is always a difficult task especially when it's a manual penalty.

Did you submit for reconsideration after working on your site?

Also note, when you disavow you are most likely going to lose your position on the SERP
because the links that use to keep you high have been blacklisted, in other words, you need
more of quality links.

It has happened: WMT showed Manual Action because of the use of a link network -> Site deindexed from Google for 2 years now. Site was ranking #1 for its keyword from 2009 until 2012 and made me some good money. Anyway I have to add that the niche was VERY dark/scammy. The site had been ranked before 2012, just using link networks and tons of blog comments, around 20K backlinks.

How should this work? You 301 the new domain to the penalized domain and then build backlinks to the new domain ? Then all the new backlinks would count for the penalized domain. How would make this sense ?

You can do nothing but continue disavowing and may create 301 redirection.

Just disavow everything at this point - you'll lose everything but at least you'll be able to be indexed again.

No instead of pissing around hoping that your website will recover, scrap the domain, buy a new domain and start again. Your site is fucked, stop wasting your time and money on it.

After you disavow the penalty should get lifted and you should be able to use the content again.

Update: Since yesterday I see some moves from my disavow. But only 2 of my 10 domains. Just jumped back, rest still stays where it is.
