For how long should I let my website age?

Did Yahoo.com let their domain age?
How long did eBay.com sit on it?
You think Fiverr.com let that thing marinate?

I have read ZSO thread and he said he starts making backlinks after 1 or 2 weeks only but he does have 50+ articles in that time frame, he also says he only make 10-20 high PR and high authority backlinks. do you think that its too risky?

All I build are big sites and I never start any backlinking until I at least have a few hundred articles on them. I'm never in a rush to get rankings as I expect my sites to be there for years sending me money.

True, I'll take your word for it and wait until I have a few hundred articles which should take some time at this rate :) Will try to step up my game but it's hard to keep finding 800-2000 monthly searches keyword fitting my criteria with low comp.

Also if you don't mind me asking, from your experience, which kind of monetization seemed to be most profitable for authority sites?

I'd worry less about how many links per day to get if you have great content. Get as many links as possible if the links bring into traffic.

I have some relationships with a few Fortune 500 companies that advertise on some of my sites that are nice, some local companies that have a long reach and I do some CPA and CJ and of course Adsense.

That is something that you need to test out on your site as you would be surprised how some opportunities pay much better than others but the only way to find that out is testing.

Hope I get to the part where testing new things can become profitable :D still far from there though I guess

Doing a authority website, currently only has 12 articles and its 13-14 days old

Right now you have a site not an "authority website" you need more content. AFTER you start getting traffic from ranking where it becomes obvious in SERPS (where it matters) that you're an authority website, at that point, you are then an authority website. :)
