Keyword Research - Finding ZERO Competition Keywords

So, I'm dedicating most of my IM efforts into keyword research since it's probably the single most important building block for starting websites.

Right now, this is my current method:

I'm using Long Tail Pro to get keywords and Traffic Travis to analyse their competition, since it provides Median PR and Median Backlinks for top 10 results (really useful metrics) for each keyword. Then, I sort them by 'Difficulty' and check the top 10 myself for the 'Easy' and 'Relatively Easy'. Most of the times, they are actually easy to rank for keywords. Then I get those keywords back into Long Tail Pro and search for these keywords with 'Include' and type the keyword itself. This way, I get dozens of variations of the same keyword with similar competition.

I'd like to know your own methods to find (virtually) ZERO competition keywords.

Google Keyword Tool is no longer available, now its Google Keyword Planner...

I'm wondering if those who use Google Keyword Planner actually check the competition for all the keywords one by one or if it's a guessing game to select the keywords that "look" like they have low competition. Either way, it's a strange process. Let me know your thoughts.

What I was trying to achieve is bulk keyword competition analysis to speed up the process of finding those keywords worthy of checking the top 10 competition in tools like Market Samurai or Long Tail Pro. It can be done in Traffic Travis and in Ultimate Niche Finder (which I didn't try yet).

The thing is: I see so many people doing it manually (aka Google Keyword Planner) that I don't understand how can they sort through hundreds of keywords, one by one (?), to find those rare zero competition keywords.

@OP : I use exact similar way but I use LTP KC instead Traffic Travis ( Although I have it ) . Good Approach and it Really Works (Y)

I agree with you that the tools are speeding up the process of keyword research, but for competitors analysis, I could rely only on those tools.

Here's my process so far:

- After choosing the niche, I should have seed keywords
- I use those seed keywords to generate more keywords in Long Tail Pro
- I import those keywords from LTP into GKP to make sure that they have the amount of searches match LTP
- If I see the keywords with reasonable amount of searches, I will check the basic competition score of the top 10 SERPs in LTP.
- If the basic competition score seem to be good to go, I will verify it by checking each top 10 site quality such as content & the design quality of those sites. In addition, I use Ahrefs, MajesticSEO & OpensiteExplorer to check their backlink profiles to see if they are strong or weak sites to compete with.
- (Optional) If the keyword terms are worth it, I will go deeper to analyze more detail factors!

These are my process of researching the keywords. Even though it's time consuming, it's effective enough if the aiming keywords is worth to target.

I don't go with the bunch of keywords by relying on the status of the keyword tools on how easy or how hard the keywords is. Yet, if you're finding long tail keywords with minimal search amounts, it's the good choice to bulk checking with the keyword tools.

I use market samurai which gives a quick idea on how competitive a keyword may be.

Market Samurai is amazing after finding Low Competition, High Revenue keywords. But to Check Competition in Bulk, you need a faster program. Checking Competition for +30 keywords in Market Samurai Gonna be a pain in Ass

This is why I take all keywords under 30 in LTP KC and Use Market Samurai to Check them. I ALWAYS find that LTP agrees with MS so I use MS now for Filtering my list

It depends if you are going to be running adsense or a different type of monetization. you want high competition because it means money flowing into that keyword from adwords. If you are doing CPA you might want low ad competition because you aren't running adsense.

I think it kind of depends,if you're going with Adwords then Keyword planner should be alright but I like using Scrapebox suggest scraper and competition addon.

I manually check the competition of all of my keywords that I find using the Google Keyword Planner. I can usually discern high competition keywords from low competition keywords just by looking at them, although I always double check them with other tools, such as Moz, before I start using them.
