Hi all,
This is a little trick I used to get links from all my competitors. I work as a web designer and wanted to rank #1 for some local towns with keywords like "web design in ________" and the such.
Problem was, not many people really want to link to web designers. We don't have much thats interesting and our websites are 100% designed to make you buy our services.
So I needed links, option 1 is to buy links. We all know that, but option 2 was to build links from relevant pages. Who could possible be more relevant than other web designers in the towns I want to rank for.
So I created a website under a fake name, the idea of this website was for me to "interview" other web designers, I post up their interview and give them some advertising on this website.
Out of the 80 emails I sent, 55 got back to me and accepted, I posted up the interviews and of course, these people then tweeted out about the interview, posted it on their websites, blogged about it, tweeted it, facebooked it.... It worked brilliantly.
But the problem was I build links to a different website and not my own, so how do i transfer the link juice to my site?
I used rel cononical, I reposted these interviews to my portfolio website and indexed them all in web master tools. I then used the rel cononical tag to pass the link juice to me. Another option was a 301 but if they checked this in the future they would have seen my plan, but with rel canonical i doubt they will ever know!
Within 14 days I was dominating the SERPs. For many towns I was in the top #3. But for 5 towns I was #1 from this technique alone.
This works better for offline niches and real businesses, hopefully this works well for your businesses or clients. It's a great one for clients because you own the 'bridge' that passes the link juice, if they stop paying you its easy to turn off
This did not take more than 2 days to build and implement either, its a great return for such little work.
Hopefully this makes sense to you guys, if you have any questions please do go ahead and answer them.
