Site Not Ranking properly

better check the keyword competition first, this is the most important thing to know in SEO :) So you have an idea what battle you're going to be in :) hehe! :) Best of luck!

have you read the thread properly??

The reason I would have no problem with my KW ranking in the category is because it gives me another chance to sell them. My category pages all have some unique content on them as I am sure to always "content them up". When Joe visitor goes to the page I have a shot at selling him a CB product, an Amazon product, a PPC ad, CPA offer, etc.

They can always, and often do, click to the page that chats them up about the actual KW that brought them there in the first place.

The more pages a person goes to on one of my sites, the more chances I have of selling them.

Your homepage is overoptimozed and receiving a penalty, that's my guess. Check keyword density

Interlinking back to the home page with long tail keyword + Analyiz/Optimizing your home page might help!
and I don't recommend permanent redirect!

Sounds like this ^^^

Is the "domain.com/category/keyword" page actually optimized to rank for that keyword? I guess I'm asking WHY you would have a 2nd page on your site for that keyword when you want the HOME page to rank for it?

Now if you didn't write that correctly and if the page that's ranking is really a different page (not the same keyword in the URL or on the page), then I would say it's even MORE of a red flag that the home page is overoptimized.

Check your kw density on the home page for the keyword you want to rank for. And then check it on the page that is ranking (for that same kw) that you don't want to be. Please report back what both percentages are.

Another factor is that ONE week in is not always a strong indicator of how things will fall into place.

And I would echo the talk of DO NOT redir to the home page. Complete waste of time.

Thnx for your suggestion mr.bass.. :)

i think it'd take more than a week before you see any results, no?

I also think so..
main keyword "weight loss"-6.99%
second keyword "weight loss book"- 5.41%

Yeah that's definitely an issue. Bring them both under 2% and see what happens. And the MORE links you get with that keyword as exact anchor text, the lower it should be. Good luck.
