Is anyone keeping a monkey as pets?

Monkeys are wild animals and should be allowed to stay that way. i think it is very cruel to keep any wild animal as a pet. Think of the miserable existence you are sentencing this monkey to for the rest of its life. I hope you will reconsider your decision to abuse this poor animal and if you truly love animals, let it remain free where it belongs.

I pretty much agree with you. Also, from what I've seen, monkeys don't behave really well in human habitat. They're the kind of pets that don't adapt as easy as you might think. Get a dog, they make better pets than monkeys.

Its very cruel to keep wild animals as pets? Really? From the animals point of view I believe that any wild animal that winds up as a pet for someone will have a very nice life.
They do not have to compete for food or go hungry if they cannot find it. Water is close at hand. They have comfortable living accommodations and healthcare when needed. No one hunts them,man nor beast.
Yet in your mind, they will be "happier" out there fighting for food everyday, freeing in winter and burning up in summer, always hungry, infested with parasites and fleas, and if they get sick, nature has a solution: let them die in agony.
Somehow people think a wild animal will sit looking out the window and pine for open forests and living life in the elements.

A animal doesn't require freedom like a person does. They are content with ample food and shelter, and anyone who loves animals are perfectly capable for caring for one. If you want a monkey and will put up with the cost of that animal's ownership, go for it.
You ill not be abusing that animal if you meet their needs and love them.
In my long and varied life, I have had a few "wild animals" as pets. I had a red tailed hawk when I was younger, we had a pet skunk and raccoon when I was a kid. I have had dozens of snakes, lizards, and birds. I have raised rabbits, had a pet possum (he thought he was a pet, I just wanted to keep him out of the garage and dog food). My aunt in Georgia can go out to her back porch and whistle, and deer will come out of the forest like a Disney movie and eat out of her hand. They are her pets.
None of these animals are or were "abused", in fact they all ways seemed happy to see me and my siblings. And the deer love my aunt.

Well let's think of it this way. Why don't you go to a mental asylum? You'll have food every day, healthcare at hand, drugs (some like them), won't have to worry about working and having to deal with dangerous situations ever again. You won't want to go there, because you won't have any freedom to act as nature intended you to. Even some humans prefer to fight for the little bit of food or drop of water if it's on their terms not dictated by someone else.
I initially wanted to say go to prison but there's some shanking and butt rape involved, not really a safe environment

Two sides to everything though really isn't there, as if you kicked your cat or dog out at night, you can be certain it will be there in the morning waiting to come in.

I know this is hard for you to understand, there is a significant difference.
Let me ask you something, if I get tired of a cat or dog and take them out for a long drive in the country and toss them out am I being cruel for dumping them out in the world, or kind because I am setting them free?

Well, I just asked if anyone is keeping monkeys, I didn't say anywhere I am going to keep them at my house, I mean I just wanted to see what would others think and maybe then... why not?
About animals' freedom - in my honest opinion some people could treat wild animals MUCH better than them living on their own:
1. Risk to get killed by another animal.
2. Risk to die from starving, disease.
3. Unstable, sometimes terrible environment.
4. MANY MORE.
