Is prolonged computer use making my ears ring? Anybody else experience this?

The other day I noticed that my ears ring. It sounds just like the high pitch electrical noise made when a computer is running or thinking,,, in fact I thought the noise was coming from the computer in my room or the modem or something, but one night I couldn't sleep so I unplugged everything and that's when I noticed that the noise was not from my computer but a ringing coming from my ears. It also sounds similar to watching a scrambled cable tv channel (not the black and white snowstorm but the scrambled waves where you can sometimes kind of see the picture in between the scamble) or like the humming of insects in the summer time .... I'm on my computer (laptop) all day everyday and I was thinking that maybe the high pitch electrical noise is either damaging my ears or maybe it's making it ring like when you come home from a concert and you can still hear the music,, except instead of music I can still hear the computer buzz. I have tried to not use my computer, but only for 24hrs and this did not help. I guess I could try earplugs, but I make a lot of phone calls while I'm working so this is not really a good solution for me :/ (I guess I can still try earplugs when I'm working at night, I will update with results in a week or two..)

I thought I would ask here if anyone else experiences this since most members here are on their computers a lot. Maybe it will help me figure out what is causing my ears to ring ,,,, It could also be tinnitus, but the ringing is so very similar to the computer noise that my first thought is that the computer is causing it.

Have you checked if you have any cellphone chargers connected to the wall? Mine always gives out a high pitched noise when it's connected but not charging anything.

thanks but, no cell phone charges in the room ,,, it is definitely coming from my ears ... i can hear it anywhere i am -

I would seek professional help.
Everyone can hear ringing when in silence but what you described obviously doesn't seem like that.
Go to a doctor and describe it how it is.

i'm not sure ,,, maybe at least 6 months ... i thought it was from the computer or modem in the room but just realized recently it's coming from my ears ,,, now i have become more aware of it

Was thinking like you mentioned as tinnitus. I have that same ringing and assumed it was the frequency generated from electrical devices. I know musicians get this type of symptom as well. Not sure if it could also be blasting music through your headphones like a son of a gun much like I do in the gym.

That ringing crap also makes it hard to sleep the more you become aware of it. =/

i don't blast much loud music ,,, could be tinnitus, but what is causing it? ... i really think it comes from the high pitch frequency of the laptop running ,,, the ringing fluxuates just like electronic scrambling .... it is very much the same noise that comes from my laptop ,, when i turn my laptop off (also turn off lights, and unplug everything) i can hear the exact same type of noise, just not as loud -

the strange thing is that the ringing seems to be more in my right ear ,,, but as im typing this i just realized that i do in fact sit turned to the left so the right side of my body faces more to the computer ....

Go tot the doctor, it's a tinnitus and there is a good chance that you at least can get it reduced.

Have you checked your blood pressure? High blood pressure can be the cause of your problems.

Same thing happened to me, it is constant, and from what I was reading there is no cure ...I am already used to it, but it gets boring sometimes. Yes, it is from starring at the screen. You can't have it all...

May be place cotton in your ear and try to sleep and by that you will know exactly its from ear or not. Even if its in ear tuffed cotton in ear may reduce the noise as it fill the ear hole so no sound wave be heard by your ear drum even if the sound generated from ur ear.

Unplug all non-vital electrical devices before going to bed. If you wake up and you still hear the noise, time to visit the doctor.

I had this too, but it was a bit different, it was like water was boiling in my ears. It was frustrating, but now it's gone.
This allways helps and works: unplug everything before going to bed, LITERALY everything. and yes, if you can, turn of your phone too! (I mean off, take the battery of) sleep like that for a week or so, you will improvements, if not, the doctor is waiting and he'll be mad if you let him wait more than you already have

how often do you experience this? it does sound like tinnitus alright, its meant to be one of the vibrating strings in your ear drum dying out! i've never experienced it from being on the pc, but i do get it if i try to go to sleep while i'm seriously high!
