PHPBUILT's Idiot-Proof Guide to Authority Site Building

Yes, of course, but I'm speaking about EMD. If my website use an EMD, I can manage to keep a very low keyword density on the site. But when people will create a "natural" anchor to speak about my website, they may in this way overoptimise my linking, even if content has a kw density near to 0%, no ? Or I'm missing something ?

Yes, according to what PHPBUILT mentioned in this post, there is a chance that an EMD will be "too powerful" and lead to an over optimization filter. The remedy for this is to increase your "cup"size, which means to get high DA links. This will assist your site to absorb the juice instead of it being spelt.

Thanks PHP, really good post, i have a question, if i break the phrase "how to make lightweight bike parts" into two three-words phrases as you suggest, what can i put in title tag, do i have to put the 2 phrases seperately?
If you didn't get a notice in webmaster tools about "unnatural backlinks", I wouldn't suggest disavowing any links. If you have a problem with too many exact anchors, its far better just to balance them out with more links of nonexact anchors.

As far as how to redirect it ... does it still get traffic? If so ... set the whole site up as a canonical to your new site. This transfers rankings quickly from one domain to another. 301 would also transfer the links that you say you don't want.

The reason I hate to disavow links is that, while Google can somewhat alleviate the penalty caused by it ... that penalty seems to snap back pretty easy. Far better just to balance the links out.

I hate most widgets just because they seem to elevate keyword density throughout the site. Be careful of the keywords they happen to inject on every page ... it makes it harder to use those same keywords in content without hitting the limit on density.

You're best off if you can use your own anchors on all the links and tone down repetition of your site's primary keywords.

Almost every update that resulted in bad rankings for someone was primarily a strict keyword stuffing filter which just got a little more strict. 150 words isn't very much content ... you can rank with low content + lots of links but its hard to rank on just low content. I'd recommend taking like 5 of those, improving them by bringing them back up to 300 or more words, and keep adjusting it like that until they rank.

Sometimes, I don't even know what Google is looking for ... if usually I can get a page to rank following the guidelines I listed, but worst case scenario I will just tinker by adjusting keyword densities, adding content ... keep doing that until the page ranks.

On a 5/6 word keyword its easy to stuff. You'll want to use the keyword once, and you will have to write a longer article. Use portions of the long keyword as well (break it down into chunks) and keep those chunks at their appropriate keyword densities as well.

For this ...

"how to make lightweight bike parts"

I would have this in title, and as such my template will also make it a H1 tag. I will use it in content at 1% or less. Because it is a 6 word keyword, that means you have to write more than 600 words minimum to get 1% density on this one keyword.

I'll break it up ... "If you're wondering how to make a bike that blah blah", (just used "how to make" again) ... I'd do that to 1% density on its own, seeing its a 3 word combo.

"Lightweight bike parts are important if you are building a bike that will blah blah" ... just used "lightweight bike parts" as another keyword on the page. Because its 3 word combo, I'd use that at 1% or less.

I'd use "how to" at up to 1.5% density, lightweight up to 2% density, "bike parts" at up to 1.5% density, bike and parts separately at 2%.

1.6% density is bordering overoptimization on a 2 word keyword ... I'd keep it lower.

So, can we still hope for web 2.0 and blog network guide? Long time no voice from PHPBuilt...

Sooner than 15 years. I actually have a job and my own projects, and they're extremely exciting. I love what I do, wake up early in the morning ready to tackle the world. I enjoy helping people here too and trying hard to fit it in my schedule to be helpful, and offer advice I wish I knew 5 years ago. The blog network post will come after the web2.0 post.

what the anchors we need to use? You mentioned 20% exact, 40% partial, 40% generic+urls? Is it not so much? Also as I know to root page we can build not more than 15% of keyword anchors.
Exact anchors on blogs, partial, generic and brands on web20?

One more question: i am unable to go to 2% for one word keywords, is this % really change picture if you have 1% for 2w+? Also if keyword contain stopword like 'weight loss for men' - we count it as 3 or as 4 words?

Haven't read a good post like this since Eli from bluehatseo stopped posting. I'm waiting for the PBN post :) .

sure enough keyword stuffing is the worse you can do when blogging nowadays. With panda, penguin and all these other silly google's algo updates you cannot get away with it no more. Anywas, buying quality links from high PR sites is probably the easiest way to increase the authority of a site.

This is ABSOLUTELY one of the best posts in BHW that I've ever read. TONS of great nuggets in here. I've read it through 3 times and I'm STILL finding little bits of info that I can turn into gold! Love it!

Can not thank you enough for this, Phpbuilt. This is going to help me tremendously.

Hope things are still going well for you in the Philippines. Take care!

This is truly an idiot proof guide for building an authority website, very well detailed.

I have one question on this (really appreciate the thread, thanks):

If your blog network never links out, doesn't that mean it only links to you? Isn't that an obvious footprint? And one that definitely wouldn't pass manual inspection? (apologies if I've misunderstood.)

I completely cover this in my upcoming web2.0 guide, in great detail. Let me summarize this though.

Linking out isn't always bad. On money sites I link out maybe once every 5 posts, where it seems the right thing to do. Any more than that is just leaking PR.

You receive benefits from linking out to higher quality sites that have the same niche as the page you're linking from. The effect is it makes you a resource for that keyword, which is good. You will farm this on web2.0s. You will reluctantly use this on your money sites. You will never do this with your blog network.

Wait for the web2.0 guide that will explain how to turn linking out into an authority building activity.

I have a website named keywordteam. This site has one product and is my money site. I was thinking of having my blog at www.keywordteam.com/blog. What you do think? I'm trying to rank for "Keyword Service." Is having "keyword" in my name a problem? Should I separate the blog and the money site?

(Note: the money site has a static home page where I have one link to the blog category page. The home page is built to rank for Keyword Service.)

Thanks man. And, again, really appreciate the thread. Fingers crossed.

Great thread. I'm working on a project that will make great use of this info. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks PHP, it's my second time to read this thread, and i think i should read it for the third or forth time cause it's really worth it.

Why not just scan it on your next read, copy and paste the good questions and answers to a text or Word file? That way you can reference the useful material anytime you want. Rework it into your own manual :) Not saying you should sell it as a "manual" but more or less just have it at your finger tips instead of rereading for hours

Wait, there's just one thing I'm confused about. If my primary keyword is "Cool Widgets", is it okay to have a whole bunch of articles with titles with keywords such as "Angel Widgets", "Green Widgets", "Dog Widgets" at 2% density? I don't plan on backlinking to the site with "Angel Widgets" or "Old Fashioned Widgets" except for a few high PR bookmarks and blog comments. However, I do plan on doing a whole bunch around "Cool Widgets", "Awesome Widgets", and such.

This is awesome stuff, just wanted to say thanks. Still looking forward to other guides.
