is that also for long tail keywords? Such as buy facebook likes for example, is that also for body? And what about other h1/h2/h3, title, bold, links? Should i worry about that also?
Thanks
OP refers to the body value.
1 word should be less than 2%
2 words should be less than 1.5%
3 words and above should be less than 1%

The other values, he did not give any value for them except of not repeating the same keyword in the title tag (or in the same H tag)... it means do not have a title with more than one occurrence of your keyword:

NOT good: "buy facebook likes to increase your facebook social presence"
Better: "buy facebook likes to increase your social presence"

I'll respond to this post later today, not enough time now. However, never give your niche away or your domain. You should edit all that post, delete the specifics and PM it to me instead.

I just used a fake example, everyone likes widget but I thought I will use a real sounding example. Not my niche or a nice of any site I know but now I think it may be a good niche after all.

what would you say about keyword density of 1 word like game, computer or something like this?? I think it is not important to worry about density of such keywords... Am i right?

This is what he says in a post above:
2 keyword combos you should keep at 1.5% or less keyword density according to Quirk Searchstatus firefox plugin. All single-word keywords on the page should not exceed 2% density, so if somehow facebook exceeded that amount targeting both the keywords that have facebook in it, you'd need to reduce some of them even more.
I know from experience (i'm "repairing" an old site right now) it can be really hard to trim down those single words. I have to change the categories name, change the footer, and various theme 'hacks' so the theme won't affect my density. Most of the times I have to rewrite a sentence or two, and many times I have to write additional sentences or paragraph to make the article longer to lower the density.

Q3: I want to get rid of the link profile, all links were low quality (non-relevant free directory submissions, bookmarks, spun articles, etc) and limited tired link building GSA). The domain has PR 0 after the recent update :( and only two links have PR on them (PR 1 and PR2). I judged this as a link profile to run from and start from a clean slate. Do you think once the partial match domain was removed, my sites tolerance to exact anchor text would increase and I can 301 the old domain to new domain or do I still run a risk of getting penalized again for keywords in anchor text?

If you didn't get a notice in webmaster tools about "unnatural backlinks", I wouldn't suggest disavowing any links. If you have a problem with too many exact anchors, its far better just to balance them out with more links of nonexact anchors.

As far as how to redirect it ... does it still get traffic? If so ... set the whole site up as a canonical to your new site. This transfers rankings quickly from one domain to another. 301 would also transfer the links that you say you don't want.

The reason I hate to disavow links is that, while Google can somewhat alleviate the penalty caused by it ... that penalty seems to snap back pretty easy. Far better just to balance the links out.

Issue: High bounce rate.
Resolution: Added a widget to the sidebar (across full site, promoting my top articles). The links are image links, so no anchor, are site-wide. This to me seemed similar to the way you promote stores, by adding links in the sidebar. I would want to rank for all those pages I am linking to from the side bar, so I am concerned about having an anchor text in the link. With limited traffic now (only from bing and yahoo) the bounce rate reduced from 85% to 60%. Q1: Do you think not adding anchor text with keyword was the right move? I am getting a good reduction in bounce rate by this and don't want to mess-up keyword density by having overly optimized anchor text.

I hate most widgets just because they seem to elevate keyword density throughout the site. Be careful of the keywords they happen to inject on every page ... it makes it harder to use those same keywords in content without hitting the limit on density.

You're best off if you can use your own anchors on all the links and tone down repetition of your site's primary keywords.

Which page is better in your view? From the user standpoint I was giving all the information on one page and was also hitting 300+ words, now I have much smaller word count, the page does not look as good, and is no longer as useful but has no duplicate content. One solution is to add unique descriptions to each page (which may all convey the same thing but written very differently). Do you see this as the only solution or do you think 150 word pages have a chance to rank?

Almost every update that resulted in bad rankings for someone was primarily a strict keyword stuffing filter which just got a little more strict. 150 words isn't very much content ... you can rank with low content + lots of links but its hard to rank on just low content. I'd recommend taking like 5 of those, improving them by bringing them back up to 300 or more words, and keep adjusting it like that until they rank.

Sometimes, I don't even know what Google is looking for ... if usually I can get a page to rank following the guidelines I listed, but worst case scenario I will just tinker by adjusting keyword densities, adding content ... keep doing that until the page ranks.

Q: I am also moving these posts to pages as that will further improve the structure of my site (I will use blog post to promote those pages)
Q: I have several topics such has "how to make lightweight bike parts" "How to install lightweight bike parts" where I actually want to target a five to six word keyword!. I typically write a 5000- 700 word article for them. Can you give me keyword density suggestion for this.

On a 5/6 word keyword its easy to stuff. You'll want to use the keyword once, and you will have to write a longer article. Use portions of the long keyword as well (break it down into chunks) and keep those chunks at their appropriate keyword densities as well.

For this ...

"how to make lightweight bike parts"

I would have this in title, and as such my template will also make it a H1 tag. I will use it in content at 1% or less. Because it is a 6 word keyword, that means you have to write more than 600 words minimum to get 1% density on this one keyword.

I'll break it up ... "If you're wondering how to make a bike that blah blah", (just used "how to make" again) ... I'd do that to 1% density on its own, seeing its a 3 word combo.

"Lightweight bike parts are important if you are building a bike that will blah blah" ... just used "lightweight bike parts" as another keyword on the page. Because its 3 word combo, I'd use that at 1% or less.

I'd use "how to" at up to 1.5% density, lightweight up to 2% density, "bike parts" at up to 1.5% density, bike and parts separately at 2%.

1.6% density is bordering overoptimization on a 2 word keyword ... I'd keep it lower.

Awesome guide buddy! Noticed a lot of minor points that you raised which could very well be huge difference makers in SERPs. Good job! :D

What do you think about taking 2 overoptimized pages A and B, combining the content into AB (easier to de-optimize since the densities would almost be cut in half instantly) and then adding a canonical tag on B pointing to A? Would something like this work?

I have some bigger sites I want to de-optimize and this would save a lot of time.

I didn`t get this part. You have "hacked" theme that make title page H1 ? So all my posts should start H2 right? Or it is in nature that all wordpress theme have this ability straight away - if you dont write H1 then your post title became automaticly H1 ? Thanks in advance.

Just about every wordpress theme puts your page/post title in an H1 tag.

You can check the source code to see if your theme adds an h1 tag.

If you use firefox then go to Tools -> Web Developer-> Page Source

wow great guide, think i need to go back to the top and read again...and again to make sure this sinks in.

Thanks for your time writing this i have a small but growing site and this info is gold dust

thanks again

Hi PHP, i followed your guide to create a complete new site, but unfortunately it is sandboxed. can you kindly share some experience of getting out the google sandbox? Thanks very much.

Do you recommend to use this same keyword density for quick rank, churn and burn sites too?

Hey, thanks for this guide man. Your time and effort you put in to build this guide is priceless.

This is my question:

Let's say I have an e-commerce site, and I would like to rank 5 different categories, with 10 products each.

Should I add content to this 5 different pages listing products? (At least an article describing the category itself?)

How important are articles in page ranking (not website)? Or maybe, they are important to Website ranking, as they add more value and uniqueness to the website itself.

For instance, I could add value to my website, uploading high quality articles to the blog it has (domain.com/blog), and still ranking the categories I want, with proper keywords and on-page SEO without articles in them?

am I right?

Thank you so much.

Love what you have written about so far and I am excited about what you have to coach and teach about "Create Blog Networks (soon)" However, the word (soon) is so objective I knew a guy that owned a pizza franchise company and he put on his pizza boxes that opening soon over 300 restaurants - he put this on all of his advertisements when he had only 20 franchise restaurants and 10 corporate owned stores. It took him 15 years to get to 300 stores. So, I hope your soon is far shorter than his was.

Sandbox is overoptimization -- your pages or incoming anchors are probably too exact.

Nope. Churn and burn is a different scene, and is so much different than trying to rank a site with stable tactics that I'm not going to get into the specifics of it here lest I confuse everyone. Suffice to say it is completely different -- I've seen successful churn and burn pages from 6% to 9% density.

There is no benefit to having pages on your site that are not tackling specific keywords. The only pages you make will target very specific keywords.

You will not try to rank your categories. You will noindex/follow them using All In One SEO.

If you want to rank for the specific keyword of the category, you will build another page on your blog and rank that blog page for that keyword.

It took him 15 years

Sooner than 15 years. I actually have a job and my own projects, and they're extremely exciting. I love what I do, wake up early in the morning ready to tackle the world. I enjoy helping people here too and trying hard to fit it in my schedule to be helpful, and offer advice I wish I knew 5 years ago. The blog network post will come after the web2.0 post.

This is probably why most of my sites loose rankings after a while - 5% single word density. Still for some time (2 months) I was for one site just few spots lower than the brand site.

Getting single word density down to <2% is actually quite an accomplishment... :(

Any case: still great advice given, PHPBuilt. Looking forward to your new posts and comments :)

Thanks
