Hi guys,


I'm making a portuguese private blog network. I've bought dropped domains with a good brazilian link profile. I've started one month ago.


My content is translated from english via Google API. Those posts is ranking for the title posts (lots of extreme long tails KWs).


But... I'm with a fear of had lost they pagerank/autority/trust, because the old websites isnt ranking for the branded name. What do you think about that?

If you have bought them after they expired they are as good as garbage.
If you bought them in an auction and the seller transferred it to you, you should have no problems unless his BLing is shady, which you should always check before proceeding to make a purchase.

Really? Isnt there some type of time period in which the expiration does not have an effect on the ranking factors (for example if you bought it within the first 4 weeks after expiration or something)? I mean lots of experienced members and bloggers recommend buying expired domains, which I thought means domains AFTER expiration.

Exactly what I think, Paulie W. I've used expireddomains . net and I the domains that I have bought receive links from a lot .gov.br and .edu.br (high trusted sites). My websites is ranking ranking for the titles, but not for the name of the domain. Example:


My domain is "brasilfans", and there's no competitors in the SERP. Just the older social networks from the old owner of the domain ranking. Then, my website appear on the #8 ~~ #6 position.

I think that those positions is too low, seeing that the website is linked from those social networks...

Did you reconstruct the website from archive[.]org?

Are you using the same content/on-page as the old websites?

Do you plan on using the brand name? If not, then don't worry. One thing I would make sure is that the new site has content relevant to the old links. Also start posting fresh content and links.

I cant reconstruct the same content. I've tried to do this for 3 sites and the older owners sent me lots of angry emails. After that, I wont copy the older content again.

But, I still using the older name in my header, sidebars, footer and I 301ed to similar content the older pages. I can say the content is not totally related, but I've tried to do this. I've 301ed to related pages as I can, each other I've 301ed to home. I think that I'm losing juice, but there's no problem. The problem is lost ALL the power of the domain.

The network have 10 sites. I've posted less or more 50 posts in each site, and I'll start to link to my money sites, 2 per week, with high quality articles, handwritten, to see results.

Not ranking for your domain name is a sign of a penalty i have found.. usually penguin in my experience.

I'm ranking for the domains name, but not in #1, like I've expected. The domain's facebook page, for example, is ranking higher than the domain for the sitename without extension (.org, .com).


In 10 websites, no site is penalised. I've analized the link profile link by link, and are all trusted/natural. No website was a website for making money. 90% is a failed charity foundation website or green projects.

Ye i've had sites where i my domain name was nowhere to be found when it was penailized, and i've had sites that were just like you say.. outranked only by my own facebook, twitter, google plus pages that were of the same name as the domain..

And always for me anyway, it was a penguin penalty. When i fixed the problem, my site regained its top ranking for its domain name - when i made a mistake with link building it fell again.

Well at least you've got backlinks from a good source - but how is your actual anchor text ratios? That too can have an effect on your domain being penalized even if you have no links from spam sources.

Anyway, if it's only a site in your blog network that is suffering from the penalty, who cares.. it's sole function is to pass page rank to your money site.. it doesn't matter if its suffering a slight penalty.

Thank you! I have certain that those websites arent penalised (there's no one money anchor text, and 40% is junk anchor, 30% siteURL, 30% sitename), but I've loved to read your position about the penalties.

I understood your humor, but, really expired domains cant be bid, correct? Only actions (pending to be expired), can be bid, correct? Really expired domains can be taken anytime, like a new domain... Or I'm wrong?

I believe the domains you are talking about are considered both expired and deleted.

Anything halfway-decent (and much that isn't) is available for bidding after expiration and before deletion.

Google "expired domains" and you'll see what I mean.

Then, if a domain is considered like deleted, the power (trust, pr, whatever) goes away?

For example: if Ive bought a domain after one year of expiration (the domain can be buyed in any registrar) but the link profile is intact, theres no power in this domain, because google reseted the domain?

Op, NEVER EVER USE Google's tools to translate content, you are shooting yourself in the feet by doing so.
You are giving them data, if you don't want it to backfire, stop doing that

Diaze is right don't run the risk by using google for you translations if your doing something they don't agree with.

My experience with expired domains is they work well. No PR but they rank your site.

I disagree regarding expired domains, if the backlinks are still there they are good for me. I use many expired domains and they work as well as non-expired auction domains, but you have to be wary of any penalties attached to the domain.
