yes I agree.
Expired domains works perfectly well and are good to be used as buffers.
What I do is make a pbn of 200 expired domains with PR / with lot of backlinks and use them to rank my site

I would also consider buying through auctions as there is no guarantee to the results from expired ones. But if you have already done it, try to make sure that they are well indexed and keep on backlinking. Dont turn back till you can ascertain the root of that.

Expired domains works, yours domain is in my opinion penalised. Have you checked how many times it was dropped before you bought it and all the other "homeworks" you should have done before buying expired domain?
1. About Google translation, Just 50% of the sites are feed with every day translated article (that ranks very well), other 50%, feed with manual content (5 or 10 posts at the start, and 3 posts without links for each post with links).
2. All websites are indexed, cached, and ranking well for long long tails KWs, and their link profile is intact.
3. I'll follow the suggestion of Biznik and I'm going to link those 10 websites to my money site, 1 or 2 per week, with a varied anchor text.
