Avoiding the military

So, I'm about to turn 18 this year, and here in Brazil you still get drafted if the base general thinks that "your country needs you".

There's a 1k fine if I'm selected and don't want to serve (for a whole year @ < minimum wage pay) and I can't afford it, I don't have the money and that would give me a criminal record, which would be terrible because I'm planning to move out of the country this year and that would make it 200% harder to get an passport.


And this just leaves me one option, look up and say:

Now what?

Seriously, the military gives you a skill set that no other can. You will end up with advanced driving training, shooting, survival, first aid and more. I get Brazil employs there military in various places, but still it would be beneficial to actually do it.

Seriously, you can use the skill to get a better job outside. Maybe try and go officer if possible and get an education. Just a thought

Brazil military is terribly unequiped, the recruits on my local base do nothing but run all day long because is either that or nothing.

Besides, I don't agree with armed manisfestation, and I don't think I would be a good fit for it.

But the point is that I don't WANT to go to the military, I have other plans that would help my country even further than just learning how to shoot with a WWI gun.

I remember when government tried to pass a mandatory millitary service law, some people thought of leaving the country, getting the passport sealed at some of the borders and then sneaking back undetected, (technically if you are out of the country, you are not elegible for service) but I'm almost sure it's illegal and a bad idea.

Well either get exempted or serve the 12 months. Really not that many options here. One thing you need to think about is the technical training you will get.

Not to mention Brazil has not been in a conflict in like 50 years.

I could technicaly get an passport now and just leave, but I'm moving to a semi-bordering country so they could technically just get in there and get me but they don't have the balls to do that, so they would just ban me from the country instead (bad idea, still have family here).
My income is not that stable at the moment so I can't just move now (I'll sign for the draft in July, the last month of the signup period, so they might kick me out as excess quota).

I wouldn't be a field soldier, just a recruit and then after the 12 months I could decide to follow a military carrer or not.

But it's not fair, I would have to say goodbye to my business and stuff, so I have to find a way to get exempted.

The country leadership has been communist for the last 20 years or so (openly).

I think they might keep the military purposely falling appart so they can't coup the country leadership again.

People here skip the army mainly in 2 ways:

a) They pretend to be crazy. They pass some "exams" 3 times and voila, you are now exempt.
b) They get in and pretend they are gay. They get summarily given a "come back later" dismissal and they are miraculously never get called back (this happens somewhat unofficially).

Try finding similar loopholes in your country. There must be local forums dedicated to that.

I asked even formal military people, and they said that my asthma MIGHT save me out of this one.
But in general people here are strongly pro-military (the brainwashing that the military did from the 60's thru the 80's when they had full control of the country is still strong here)

That would show up when trying to get a passport.

But I'm curious, what booklet is that? when you get exempted they give you a little card saying so but the only "booklet" that I can remember is a little photo thing the size of an A4 sheet of paper that looks like a diploma of some sort.

They can get me even if I have stage 9 terminal cancer.
And I think the only diseases that might count are the ones that where diagnosed by the base doctor.

I have nothing against the military, I just don't want to serve it.

And besides, it's not about "serving my country", I can't do nothing to help my country in my local military base.

If I would really like to help my country as bad as I want to help myself, I would join the B.O.P.E (elite squad) and shot drug dealers in the face everyday. Now I'm not saying that I don't want to shoot criminals in their respectives arseholes everyday, I'm saying that I don't have the guts/force to do it.

Another crazy idea I heard is to have someone report you as dissapeared or something during the drafting. So if you get drafted you can continue hiding, I don't know if they would take that as a valid excuse in Brazil but in theory it might work.
