We all have seen that every search for a commercial product leads to a billion TripAdvisor, Ebay, Amazon and other big brand sites.

What are the odds that Google is getting affiliate commissions for these search results?

Notice how every outgoing link from Google search results is a big ass string containing a hash linking to all the crap they spied out of you. That hash can easily be an affiliate tracking link.

It'd be trivial to have private contracts between these big brands and Google for them to get privileges in the SERPs.

The reason I ask is we all know Google search results are not natural. They throttle traffic, control commercial traffic to their will, etc. Give me one good reason why Google wouldn't be cashing in on this massive spam? Suddenly Amazon and Ebay, both of which have affiliate programs, are dominating SERPs and we're supposed to believe all that traffic is FREE??

I say it's not free. What say you?

They either have private contracts set up and manipulate the SERPS for these big brands to bring in commission earnings or AquaticGamer is right in that these big brands often times have millions of pages indexed and they're simply ranking for product names & searches.

Technically speaking, it isn't, because they own their site lol.. You can't use the word SPAM :D

Why wouldnt do that? Google could even blackmail Amazon, ebay, etc if they wanted just telling the would be deindexed if they dont pay a percentage.

Big money and big power, dirty business, thats all.

You have made a good point bartosimpsonio.

I was thinking the same thing as you Bartosimpsonio, Why would google give free advertising to all these major brands, They will loose a huge amount of money in adwords! something is going on behind the closed doors I reckon!

What pisses me off most about google is how they claim they are trying to make searching for stuff a better experience for all and they wish to weed out all the spam sites.

Translation is they are greedy ass bigshots that will never be satisfied with their current earnings and want complete control and percents in everything everyone does online.

Plus they are completely ruining youtube and make it almost impossible to find new and fresh content, and spam you to death with what ever they think will generate them the most income, they could give a rats ass about user experience.
Them forcing the +1 pages onto youtube is proof of that.

And wtf does ask.com show up in search results on the first page is totally retarded.
If it were possible to actually assassinate ask.com, I wish someone would.

all under one hood, of course is G an big massive AFFILIATE from what else would they earn such money!!?? providing a search xml alone? no way. and further certain Government sites are only reachable via google.

Free traffic for them, well I rather guess - money talks/ranks just imagine with all the data they are having - sold easily which is already a standard on/offline anyway,

someone just call it simply "Tracking Cookie" yummmmmmy

I have the same doubt . I think as " Ebay, Amazon " are the partner of google AD

They must have made algorithm changes so that Amazon sites get boosted up

You guys may also be overthinking the process a little bit...

Amazon/Ebay/Big Reputable Brands = More Satisfactory Transactions (than smaller stores and what not)
More Satisfactory Transactions = More Happy Users
More Happy Users = More Returning Users
More Returning Users = More Googlers
More Googlers = More Adwords Revenue

Basically by ensuring what is likely the highest quality sites (the big dogs) are the highest in the SERPS, people are generally going to be satisfied with their search results. Whether this is shopping, news, games, etc.

And also think, who pays more in Adwords Advertising? The top 50 big dogs (Amazon, Ebay, etc), or the hundreds of thousands of small businesses trying to get leads online? Google's revenue isn't going to change when it comes to the top 50 big dogs. If they eat up all the traffic from organic searches, all those companies not in the top 50 suddenly have to buy their way into the top 50, or give a half-hearted attempt. Or they focus on local demographics and keep it small.

Google doesn't have to exchange money under the table. I'm sure the big dogs understand they have to spend a certain amount to stay at the top, but that there are no worries as long as they keep shelling out the dough.

Ultimately the internet would be a far better place without Google, it's quite unfortunate they exist, even if they did help some of us make good money at one point or another.

Yeah so what?

Google owns Google. They can do whatever they wants, it's their website.

Its a private company not some government owned entity for the people.

One thing I've learned watching The Good Wife, they could be sued if they did some of the the things people are saying they might do in this thread. Antitrust and all.

I would too bet that big g is getting money but it's more than money when it comes to this. The reason why big g is ranking up all these major sites like TA, VA, etc is to suppress the voice of independent publishers. It's all about controlling the masses and public opinion. Mark my words, it's coming to a point when us the little guys won't be ranking anywhere on g

Their results have got worse though, surely normal users notice this? I mean irrelevant results where the query is not even in the page title, but some synonym. If I wanted red widgets instead of blue, I would type it. Google is trying to be too smart...

The years of patches and updates and zoo animals are all horseshit. Search quality doesn't look better on most queries only some, which removed crap like ezinearticles...

You often find the same domain multiple times, sometimes its a complete dupe URL.
