why would someone spell their url this way?

I have a competitor in my niche market of "yoga" products who is spelling their url instead of blahblah.com/yogapants.htm its blahblah.com/jogapants.htm...

is there any benefit of spelling it this way? I dont think they misspelled it so im wondering.

Misspellings are generally pretty easy/quick to rank for, and for words that are easy to misspell, i.e ones that sound different to how you spell them can sometimes be good converters.

There's 149 long-tail keywords using joga. The keyword joga alone had 135,000 searches according to the google adwords keyword tool. Joga pants had 58 searches. No doubt the webmaster is targeting misspellings.

Thank you for the input... my issue is that it is really not a common misspelling in my opinion. It would seem if the J was silent it would sound the same, but I didnt know if search engines pick up on that.

Plus if you were Spanish, Yoga would be phonetically spelt joga. (I think?)

there is a huge market for misspelling, I am the king of making that mistake, and you know what, when I do the search, the marketing site's are mostly on top.

misspellings should not be overlooked. check your server logs and note which words people
use to find your site, even the simplest of words often get misspelled.

the keywords i use at adwords include misspellings and i get extra traffic that way.

Would the stat logs in cpanel be the best place to find these? Or is there another log area that would have more info that shows what a person searched for before they got to your site?

The stat logs would be a good place to start. You can also add tracking software to give you a better idea of how people are finding your site.

If you're not keeping tabs on which search terms your visitors use, then you're
probably losing out on targeted traffic. I often see misspelled words in my
site logs and these can be added to the web page, and/or added to your Adwords campaign, to boost traffic.
